Why, Judah? Why not a VOIP phone from Vonage or a similar service?

I actually did have this VOIP thing from T-Mobile: they supplied us with a special router and phone for $10/month.
It was absolute junk. Voice quality was bad, service went in and out, and eventually the router stopped being able to connect to the mothership. Finally, T-Mobile discontinued the service.
This time around, I opted for a mobile phone. Service is just better.

Google voice and forward the number to your/wife's existing mobiles phones?
3x12=36
2x12=24
1x12=12
0x12=18

Ok, I have Vonage and it's pretty good for calls within the US. It's when you make international calls that it feels like doing a voice chat on a 14 Kbps modem.

For one, Vonnage sucks. My lady recently dropped her landline for Vonnage and we can rarely complete a 5 minute phone call before she has to switch to her cell phone. The latency and dropped packets are absolutely intolerable, and her Internet service is faster and more reliable than mine.

Any particular reason she cannot buy her own phone ?

She can't fill in the RequestForQuotation. AD stuff.

We share the same bank account so technically "we" would be buying the phone, not I.

i gave you a 5.
someone gave you a 1. "how dare you insinuate she can think/buy for herself!"

That doesn't sound like a good thing.

That's why I'm still using my old LG Decoy slider... I can afford the extra cash, but I don't think the added benefits are worth the added cost. Not for me, anyway.
One more "Con" though. The more complex the phone, the more that can go wrong. KISS principles apply to hardware just as they do to software.

So true. I have been dealing with email going bonkers on my iPhone 3G all this morning.

Don't know... You should ask her...
I can't see why she could not use a high-end phone...
It's more on the side of:
- will she need it?
- will she use it?
- will she enjoy it?
- can you afford 30$ more per month? (360$ per year).
- ...

I bought my Wife a Samsung Omina 7 (Windows Phone 7), I own a iPhone 3G.
Gotta say the Omina is a cool phone and I like the WP7 UI, I'm pushing the company to upgrade my iPhone to the WP7.

You should try out the HP Veer. Not because I like it, but because I want to find out if it's any good.

If you do check out ALL available subscriptions... I had a subscription for 17,50 a month. Needed to pay about 100 extra for the phone and I got 100 calling minutes OR sms'es.
Right after I bought it I found this bargain on the internet. Also 17,50 a month, but the same phone was free of charge, I got 100 sms'es AND 4 hours of calling minutes. Also unlimited internet access free of charge.
Luckily I was able to take my just bought phone back and get a refund.
Subscriptions can differ A WHOLE FRIGGIN LOT from one provider to the other...
Just saying $30 extra a month isn't necessary if you look in the right places

Been thinking of picking up Duke Nukem Forever, but I have been seeing some really bad reviews.
DN3D was one of my favorites, is Duke Nukem Forever, aside from the updated graphics, on par? Hate to spend hard earned cash only to be disappointed.
It was broke, so I fixed it.

Don't do it... Remember the Duke for what he was. The Duke anno 2011 can only be disappointment

False, it's a lot of guilty pleasure fun.

Possibly, but ask yourself is it worthy of the Duke?

The Duke isn't about guilty pleasure; he's about hard-ass -- correction: He's the definition of hard-ass.

I really enjoyed the game. I'd recommend getting it for PC. The xbox load times are horrible. If you're looking for a game with explosions, chicks, and one liners. This game is hard to beat.
I think most the reviewers just wanted to hate this game given how long it took to materialize. The game is not without its problems. It's no half-life or call of duty. But that said I had a lot of fun playing it. If they ever make another I'll buy that too.

I haven't seen/played it yet, but my younger brother (Mid 20s) has, and gave it some pretty high praise. He and I used to co-op DN3D on our home network back in the day, so we're both fans of the original*.
* Yes, I know DN1 and DN2 came first, but DN3D was the REAL beginning

The trick is to get the next one. No matter what DNF will suck. For the next version, there will not being any hype to live up to and the game can focus on the code. Heck, it might even break new ground instead merely being a FPS clone.
