If a developer smiles he has the malicous smile of a successful prank, the triumphant smile of conquering a bug, or the disturb-me-not corner-of-the-mouth-twitch for someone bringing you fresh, hot tea.
Well, I am self taught, went from starting to program Win32 with C++ when I was a 14 year old, worked as a QA developer at a Fortune 500 company when I was 16, published my first programming article when I was 18 and then taught myself Linux from scratch when I started and then finished my Ph.D. in Astrophysics which I got when I was 27 and couldn't have done it without just picking up whatever I need to know on my own, so yea there are some folks out there who don't have a need for formal classes etc and can just go at it.
It's about time you treated yourself to the best burger on the planet! Congratulations!
I grew up around the corner from In-n-Out #1a, since they had to tear down the original when the I-10 freeway was built. They tell the employees that it's the #1 store, but we locals know better. In some stores today there's a picture on the wall displaying the first one, with a couple of cars in the drivethru. The foreground car is a blue '36 Ford - it belonged to my uncle Bob, who was a childhood friend of Harry, the founder of the restaurant. He and my aunt were visiting the day Harry took the picture.
