In their previous TEDx appearance they do in fact cover a Foo Fighters song. I'm not familiar with the Foo Fighters so I can't assess your specific claim.

But what were you expecting to hear? The next Stairway to Heaven at their first attempt?

I like them but taste is subjective.

But re: derivative I'd say lots of artists' first music is derivative in the sense that it shows their influences or sounds familiar. Indeed, when we hear something new we often try to relate it to something familiar. Then over a period of time the artists often, though not always, carve out their own distinctive style, which might still not be apparent to the casual listener in fact.

But even derivative material can nevertheless sound musically good. Rush's debut album could be said to be derivative of Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Ten Years After. I still think it's good. And later on Rush became highly distinctive.

Kingdom Come were even more a blatant Led Zep clone. Again, they sounded good. Again, over time they acquired a distinctive melodic riff-driven style.

Mostly Autumn are heavily influenced by Pink Floyd with many, especially early songs, being almost indistinguishable. They're also influenced by a bunch of other stuff spanning classic rock and folk. Yet they too acquired a distinctive style, even while no two successive albums are similar.

The Warning's recent second album, Queen of the Murder Scene, is a step up over their debut imo and certainly is the best rock, as opposed to heavy metal or prog rock, I've heard for a few years at least.

Re: the white privilege quip, I know that Western culture is currently dominated by far left ideas but really?

If you don't like them that's fine but I don't think this applies here. It's more that they are young girls playing rock music independently of a Simon Cowell-type machine.
