Cellar Darling - Freeze[^]
A friend of mine saw them live at Graspop and told me about them.
They're quite alright, but this track is awesome.
Definitely the best on the album.
I'm especially fond of the vocals, which are beautiful.
Apparently, they use a hurdy-gurdy, but that's not really prevalent on the album.
I'm going to follow this band nonetheless

How prepared are you with disaster recovery & business continuity- Personally?
Okay I'm using these big terms for the sake of message beautification.
In other words, how well prepared are you, if you are notebooks dies off, all of a sudden?
You have all your data synced to cloud or to an external drive?
Do you have a secondary machine to pick up from where the primary one ceased, with all the tools & environments setup?
Few days back I had a real bad issue with my notebook it kept crashing during boot & landing into a BSD. I'm glad I have all the docs stored right no cloud. Like, maybe 90% of the docs - we manage online. It's such a relief. I could just drop off my primary notebook and continue with my secondary one, as I had all environment set up,readily.

There are no ladders around my house I could walk under. There are no banana peels. I have small piles of salt in each room, ready to throw over my shoulder. I have shoulder-mounted mirrors where I can look both ways for oncoming traffic without moving my head.
Before I reboot after a Windows update, I draw a pentagram, and put a drop of my blood in the center while cursing Microsoft and Google.

You should add this to the list - "I dont own newer Thinkpad models".
I think, Thinkpads are no more thinkpads.

With great respect, may I draw your attention to the fact that the "Star of David," as palladial icon for Judaism, is recently adopted (19th. century), in the context of Zionism: of course there are a few ancient instances, ornamental, Kabbalistic:[^] The sign's use in Islam, associated with magic (Seal of Solomon) may be as ancient. And, note that Hasmonean Judaism was fervently aniconic, and condemned any form of magic.
The pentagram has much more ancient ritual use, although it also occurs in the Christian tradition: [^].

I'm well aware that the "star of David" has nothing to do with the biblical king of that name. I was trying to pun on the word "hex", but it fell flat.

All my code is in the cloud, so at least it'll be business as usual professionally.

Replace it with a three (or four) disk NAS box running RAID5 - that way a single HDD failure isn't fatal, the data can be fully recovered from the other two. (It works: I had one go down and the NAS worked flawlessly with just two while I waited for the replacement to be delivered)
If the electronics fail, you can generally read the disks in a new enclosure by the same manufacturer (but not a different one, they all use their own RAID controllers, even if the actual disks are all stored formatted as EX2).
And HDD failure is guaranteed; electronics tend to last considerably longer.

I'll probably buy a second external disk somewhere in the future and copy everything there.

It's really simple: buy the box, plug it in. Connect it to your network (instructions will be with the unit) and via your browser tell it what RAID level you want. Then just set up shares as if it was a computer.
Easy-peasy, honest.
And not that expensive: a 12TB unit complete with 4 * 3tb Disks is cheaper than a new lappie: Seagate 12TB Cloud Business Network Storage 4 Bay DLNA RAID NAS Gigabit Ethernet 7636490032042 | eBay[^] (I have the 16TB previous version of this and it's given me no problems in the three or four years I've had it)
Yes, you could buy a second external disk for a quarter of that, but ...

I just had two external 5TB hard drives, 2yr old and 3yr old, turn into doorstops and have ordered two replacements (8TB) that should arrive tomorrow. Funnily enough, I have a bunch of 2TB HDs that are a lot older (6+ years) and still running strong. You can never tell.
I haven't lost a file this millenium.
