Long press - press and hold - works with most things.
If it doesn't, try long press then tap with a different finger at the same time. That works with some apps as well.

Yeah, well, it's all a bit specious, 'cos the thing's temporarily bricked.
Plugged it in and waited until the charge light went out.
Booted up and did the usual Win10 first boot stuff.
Told me it had to update now - no option to do otherwise.
Plug in the charger again, knowing it would take some time.
Get on with stuff.
Click the power button to see progress, but it does a cold start.
Screen tells me 'Restoring previous OS'.
Repeatedly fails, so go to boot menu - need to reinstall.
Currently downloading Win10 for a USB stick re-install.
The problem is simple - the idiots who packed it put a 1.3 amp charger in the box, instead of a 2 amp - battery died during the update (2 to 3 hours before I checked progress) and screwed the pooch. 
Teach me to go cheapskate and get a refurbished item from eBay, but I only need it for week or so!

Yes, it's called the default built-in Start menu.
Seriously...not to defend it (I despise it as much as anyone else), but that was the whole point of the "new" start menu. The older one wasn't well suited for a small-screen, touch device, so this is what they've introduced it for.
Unless you're going to be using your tablet all the time, why not stick with what's built in, so that way, you can test it in an environment that's more likely to match the one your users are going to be using?
