I have a new PC, wooohoo! 
Also have ADSL2+ (I guess it's kind of ok but getting a bit behind the time, thanks Australia!)
And I have been downloading a small selection of my game library non stop since Wednesday!   
But I was getting almost there... But there was a promo code for my video card (which was a pain to redeem btw) but it eventually happened and I unlocked "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare"
And then I went to download that..... 120 GB download! WTH! 
This take the crown as the most bloated download yet by far!

I thought the NBN fixed all of that?
Oh well, there's always Telstra, sure, decades behind the rest of the world
and primarily responsible for sabotaging any progress (NBN a case in point albeit with help from a few successive Labor govt's that for some reason the people thought were good.)
but they get there, ... sort of, ... well maybe eventually, ... in dreams.
(chin up, "Advance Australia Fair" and all that. Beautiful country, shame about the people.)

They waited.

Albert pointed to something white zigzagging lazily through the air. Finally Death reached up an caught the single sheet of paper.
He read it carefully and then turned it over briefly just in case anything was written on the other side.

don't mind about the animals trying to kill me, it's in their design.
people though, apart from not knowing which ones want to kill you also have to put up with the: annoying, obnoxious, thieves, con artists, stupid, noisy, 'fragrant', full of "good advice" ....

short version: with animals, [killer or no], you know what you're getting.

Nearly 12 hours after the original post, and nobody's going to comment about the 120GB download?
At that size, a game really ought to come on its own hard drive. How many people can't even download that in a month?

I could download it overnight, while I slept - but that's still a silly size for a game!

12 hours later... 70 GB remaining (about 50 GB during the 9 hours nights)
Should be ready by Monday evening! ^^

At my speed, the next version of Call of Duty would be out by the time the download was done...

why not use process monitor to check whats happening

Thank you! I've used this tool before but for some reason didn't think to use it this time. I did use it but it didn't really help in this situation. (it was more a programmer (me) error) But, thanks anyway! Happy Weekend!

It's done in code. The program shows a list of samples and the user selects the one they want to download and connect to. I can manually paste in the zip file (in between message boxes where I have it paused) and it works.
Process Monitor show the file getting created, but it never shows up in the folder. I've tried from a half-dozen folders/locations now with no luck. (thinking it might be a virtualization issue)
Never mind...I got it working. It was a missed ftp setting causing the problem. Apparently, either passive mode or proxy is important on VMs.
