You have to experience it.

On a monochrome CRT, you don't have any visible grid. The display is really smooth and uncredibly sharp. And the high persistance of this kind of displays make their flicker barely perceptible, which is not the case with the "faster" color phosphorus.

I can work 10 hours with a black and white display and my eyes get much less tired than when I work with my 21" EIZO color display.

The monochrome TFT is very bright and there again, the grid is much less visible than on a RGB display. And you don't percieve this uncomfortable glitter effect produced by the RGB triples of standard TFT displays (you know, white is not really percieved as white, much more like snow glittering in the sun). But maybe I have too sharp eyes Poke tongue | ;-P
