hi,
I will call a web service concurrently and heavily 50active threads at least.
Since I am a newbie at webservices would you give me any advices on calling web services heavily? e.g does creating a web reference for every thread instance affect on performance?

Hi,
Do you know the way to set the size of html drop down box in IE ?
The goal is to display the 12 month of the year at once in the drop-down box without the use of the vertical scroll.
Maybe I'll have to set up the registry.
Thank you for your help.
Regards,
Philippe.

size="12" in the select tag?
Have you looked at what attributes select has?

thank you for your answer but the size="12" «opens» the list and display all the lines : I wish to have only 1 item displayed at a time, and the 12 elements when the list is «opened» (the drop-down list).

I am looking for a program/plugin which can take as input an HTML stream contaning javascript, analyze or execute the javascript and provide me with the resultant HTML stream.
IT's URGENT.
thanx in advance.

Use IE.
No seriously. I'm assuming what you're after is an HTML dump of the document's DOM *after* any client-side javascript changes have taken effect. 'View Source' won't do that for you, but it's perfectly possible to write a tiny little scriplet that just dump's the document.body.innerHtml into another browser window.
Here's an example (save it as temp.htm or something, and look at it in your browser):
<html>
<body>
<p>Literal para 'in flow'</p>
<script language="javascript">
document.write("<p>para produced from document.write()</p>");
var node =document.createElement("p");
node.innerText ="para produced from DOM insert";
document.body.appendChild(node);
</script>
<a href="javascript:alert(document.body.innerHTML)">View DOM source</a>
<--This link above broken by codeproject renderer - put colon back-->
</body>
</html>

thanx piers7,
first of all, i am not very competent in javascript
I am kind of trying to write a proxy server....
but my problem is slightly different, u see, I am kind of in need of a javascript parser, something which can actually parse and execute the javascript and provide me with the HTML stream that resulted... After all why is IE javascript enabled?? It's because there is something in there which parses and executes the javascript.
take it like this, web pages may contain javascript in them, so there may be events related to javascript which take him to a new page etc.
thanx in advance

Hello,
I'm pretty sure that style of menu can be accomplished through JavaScript.
Here are some sites that give you tutorials on how to make your own:
http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex1/hvmenu/index.htm[^]
http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex1/index.html[^]
You might want to check out their (Dynamic Drive's) terms of use too.
I hope this helps,

Hi,All,
Export Method:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
strFileNameExport = "Results"
Response.Clear()
Response.Buffer = True
Response.ContentType ="application/vnd.ms-excel" 'application/msword
Response.Addheader "Content-Disposition", "attachment;Filename=" &
strFileNameExport & ".xls"
Response.Charset = "GB2312"
Response.Codepage = "936"
tblHeader = ""
tblFooter = ""
Response.Write tblHeader & strContent & tblFooter
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I used this code to export the content of table to Excel File. But when i
opened the Excel file, sometime the words of the content would be showed as
"confused" words. But so strange the same table (same content), sometimes
would be "confused". And sometimes it would be showed normally. It's
randomly between "confused" words and normally words.
And I had tried to change all Charset and Codepage setting of all pages. But
same result.
Seems this problem not related with Charset and Codepage setting.
(All words showed "confused" is Chinese words. And english words all are
normally. Randomly showed this error sympton in Excel file.)
Environment: ASP,SQL2K,WIN2003.

well, does any one know how to put a small java script code (about 10 lines) into a c code script?
what i am doing is creating a web page (by putting html in the c code)
and it works but now i want to add java in and it does not work.
i thought it was like this:
strcat( buffer,
"It is now "
"<!--"
"var currentTime = new Date()"
"var day = currentTime.getDate()"
"var month = currentTime.getMonth()"
"var year = currentTime.getFullYear()"
"document.write(day + / + month + / + year)"
"" );
any suggestions?
thanks

Doesn't Javascript need semi-colons to terminate statements. Your string reads:
It is now <script language=javascript><!--var currentTime = new Date()var day = currentTime.getDate()var month = currentTime.getMonth()var year = currentTime.getFullYear()document.write(day + / + month + / + year)</script>
The javascript parser is probably getting confused because all the statements run into each other. Also, you didn't terminate the comment that is there so that browsers that don't support javascript can ignore the javascript code.

On one of our websites I have some error checking setup and have been getting errors today as googlebot has been visiting the site. The error is occuring because of a missing querystring parameter. At first I thought some of the links may not have been updated as this parameter was added recently but I've checked the site and can't find any old links.
Does anyone know where googlebot could be getting these old links from or could it be googlebot is removing the parameter. The parameter in question is named sid and a colleague suggested googlebot might be seeing it as a session id parameter and removing it from the url.

hi Suzy,
you can read about googlebot here[^] If nothing on that page helps, there is support email... In that case, don't forget to post answer here!
Can't it be:
Why is Googlebot trying to download incorrect links from my server? Or from a server that doesn't exist?
It is a property of the web that many links will be broken or outdated at any given time. Whenever anyone types a link incorrectly that points to your site, or fails to update their pages to reflect changes in your server, Googlebot will try to download an incorrect link from your site. Also, this is why you may get hits on a machine that is not even a web server.
If I understand correctly somebody can link to your site with old link... and when site linking to your site is crawled, googlebot follows bad link.

It turns out its not just googlebot. When I got in this morning I had some more error notification emails. This time it was msnbot that was looking at the site.

hmmm... it might be that the search engines are "throwing away" the query, because it is that... a query string.
http://www.mysite.com/page.asp?id=12
becomes
http://www.mysite.com/page.asp
because the search engine wants the actual page, not some arb query...
personally, i think that using a query to specify a page is wrong. each page in one's site should be a physical page, and one should use post variables rather than get variables to transfer data between pages. it's safer and more "invisible" - especially when you're using some sort of online form.

Hi Guys,
I am really struggling, i am trying to save images to a database to display them on a web site, The problem being i don't have a CLUE. I have searched the web over and over and can't find a simple how to. Can any body help.
I need to know how to store images in a database (what do you save them as?)
How to retrieve them from the database, and display them on a page.
Any examples would be great.
Cheers

depends on the database server you're using. for instance, interbase and it's open source derivative, firebird, have a "blob" type [Binary Large OBject] which can save almost anything. mysql and postgresql have that too. ms sql server has an "image" type.
exactly how you go about storing them and retrieving them is dependant on the database server. that's where you need to read up a bit...
hth!

I am trying to submit asp form info and save it automatically as a .doc.
I know there is code for doctype = application/word or something to that effect but I want it to save it without having a dialog box come up and ask the user where to save it.
any code examples would be great

You could look into VBScripting Client Side Function that then opens up Word on the client machine.
Starting with
<br />
<br />
Set objWord = CreateObject("Word.Application")<br />
objWord.Visible = true<br />
I can't find a code example, but if you can find any VBA book, it will give you a ton of examples of how to VBScript Word.
The only other thing you will need to consider is that your website will need to be a trusted site in the client's InternetExplorer. Otherwise the user will need to intervene in order to get the document saved (security).
I know it's not a code example, but hopefully it will be a good starting point.
