We are in a small Circle. if we came out of that then only we can understand somthing about the life. Every is being stateless we have seen so far.Our sole is also stateless. Everything is going to destroy one day.And the things will cycle for ever. if you thing about these things then you won't thing about your retirement,money,etc.

We are all living assuming that we cease to exist after death.
All our planning, earning, working, is based on this assumption.
If rebirth was true and our next birth depended on how we live in this birth then our complete approach and our attitude will change.
No one will think about retirement. Because retirement would only be an illusion.
I wish there was a proof of rebirth (whether it exist or not). If it exists, then our whole way of living will change.

One question is, how much is enough? How much do you need to put aside to retire? Frankly, people not only should retire, but people need to expire. Wouldn't it be nice if we all just go away at age 50 so we dont need to save for retirement? Just party hard till the end? Somehow, the idea of saving and putting aside money so I can spend it while I'm lying on my death bed at age 75 and dragging on till 90 doesn't sound too entertaining (but, thanks god, even when I can't code at age 75, I can still play video game) - well, I guess there's one reason to set aside money then.

A steady job anyways...just small BS little contracts which go as quickly as they come...
Saving for retirement is the last thing on my mind...
When I do finally make some money...i'm gonna blow it on a couple days of binge drinking...just becuz I can!!!

My wife and I planning for an "early" (before the age of 45) retirement from working because we have to.
To do this we have been running a real-estate investment company and (more recently) a coin-op laundry business on our weekends. The other thing that we are doing is just not wasting money on things like payments for fancy cars. Keep in mind our goal is really finical independence since we can’t be certain about our future as employees.
It is hard at times, but is also a lot of fun to spend time with my wife working on something together

I suppose it depends on your defintion of work. I'd be very happy to continue developing software until the day I die, but I'd rather not have to keep worrying about where the next pay-cheque is coming from. So a retirement fund is a must, even if I still keep on building software.

If I update my knowledge regualrly, think commercially and do work that will benefit some company or persons, I don't see any reason why they will not be able to pay me something.
I don't think age is a problem. No age is bad for study new things and develop new ideas. Illness may be another problem. If I have arthritis, I will sit somewhere and work. If I lose eyesight, I can work with a mike (;P)
I am not against saving. I am saving also. But the greatest saving, I believe, is my own knowledge and efforts and the attitude to change according to the changing environment.

Not being a savings type guy, I've been living month to month ever since my first job. I don't own a house, property etc. I do own a car but then that's gonna deprecate in cost in 2 years. I did consider investing in Provident Funds or something, but always kept pushing it off - since doing that meant I'd have to put some money into it each month. So if I got unemployed, I'd barely have enough to keep me going for 4-5 weeks more.
Of course, I am living in an apartment that belongs to mom and I don't think she'd ask me to get out - they live in a nearby city anyway, so I'll have shelter.
I think I need to make one really huge packet of money in a single deal and put that in the bank. So if anything happens I'd have that - not sure how exactly to do it.

...was just asking for input on this the other day. Got a few good answers...
So yeah, my employer provides 401-k contribution matching and stock ownership... i put enough in that i'm getting the maximum match, more as a "this is less annoying than vegas" sorta deal than any real hope it'll do more than provide a fund to dip into for a quick loan should i ever need one (though interestingly, it did offset my interest payments last year...)
And i have a bit of cash stashed here and there, though probably not enough to get me out of the country should the commies ever take over.
But in the end, the only meal you're guaranteed is the one you just ate... and there are pitfalls there, too. I could get hit by a truck as easily today as die of cancer 60 years from now, so i'd rather not skimp too much now to pay for an unsure future.

One could consider a house as saving for retirement... if I have no house payments when I retire, that will help what other savings I have (retirement plan, etc.) stretch further.

Don't forget about reverse mortgages. When you retire, you slowly pull the equity from the house. Basically selling the house to the lender over a period of years.
