This article[^] has example code for connecting to Oracle 9.

I've only ever had problems in the past when the Oracle 9 client wasn't correctly installed on the machine or the TNS names had got screwed up.

Oracle 8i Release 3 (8.1.7) Client or later must be installed for this provider to function.

You seem to be missing the point. What version of the Oracle CLIENT is installed on your machine? It would appear that you don't have the proper Oracle Client installed on the machine to connect to the server.

Unless you have the Oracle 9i client software installed, then you probably can't.

i think i had the same problem a time ago
you need to install Oracle Data Provider ( i think you can download 4 free)
and use the objects in the Oracle.DataAccess namespace ( firs add the dll to the project )

Rational Rose (not XDE) and C#

I am wondering how people manage the transfer of design in Rational Rose to Visual Studio and C# (and vice versa). I know the Rational has XDE which allows round trip development - this is not an option for me. I am using Rose Pro ver 8.3.

I want to be able create code in VS using C# and take the class diagram over to Rose. And also create a model in Rose and transfer that to VS as easily as possible.

I could retype all the information between the two but this seems a long winded way of doing it. Does anyone have suggestions on how to achieve this with greater ease?

Hi I want to update a .def file from different window forms .I want to concatenate some text in the .def file and dont want to lose already available text in the .def file. Is there a option to directly concatenate into a file or do I need to store all the information in a class and then write it.

When creating your StreamWriter, use a constructor[^] which takes a boolean 'append' parameter. Specify 'true' for this parameter.

If you want to append this text to the very end of the file, then follow what Mike said. Otherwise, you'll have to read the file in, write the beginning of the file back out until you reach the point where you want to append your text, append your text, then continue writing out the rest of the .def file.

Hello All,

I want to customize error messages returned by exceptions. For example I want to customize the following error

"Error [42000] [Microsoft] [Odbc SQL Server Driver] [SQL Server] could not find stored procedure"

I know I can restrict exception.message and throw a customized error, but how I will know whether the error is because of this..or something else...

Could anyone please let me know how can I do that in C#...

Don't really like to do this:

The above code in will check for each key press and will only allow characters...You can modify the code to ur advantage...

So u want to check whether the first character is alphabet or digit. Am I correct ????

It will return true if the first character is a letter; otherwise false.

i think it is not possible to access file which is accessed by the another process..you will get access violation exception while accessing this file.

...but in a case, you open a text file in any editor e.g Notepad, WordPad you can access file coz what editor does is it access file and append it in to the control and close it. Smile | :)

If the file is opened DenyShareRead by the host process, you can't open it until the host closes the file, period. There's no way around this.

By deault, the FileStream object opens a file with FileShare.Read permissions. That means that any other process can open the file for reading while you have the file open.
