Trying (and having trouble understanding) to understand "inverse" ...
Quoting documentation:
"You may map a bidirectional one-to-many association by mapping a one-to-many association to the same table column(s) as a many-to-one association and declaring the many-valued end inverse="true".

(We also need to add the Parent property to the Child class.)
Now that the Child entity is managing the state of the link, we tell the collection not to update the link. We use the inverse attribute.

</set>
What's meant by "managing the state of the link"???

Hi guys,
how can i make my sql database read and store data from Oracle db?
because my system reads data from sql database.. but some data need to be read from oracle and stored in sql database so the system can retrieve them from the sql database..
can anyone help me in this case? i don't know how to connect 2 different databases ...

You could connect the Oracle db as a linked server and use direct SQL commands between the two servers on the SQL Server side. Look up the books online for linked servers. You will have to configure an ODBC to oracle server from your SQL box.

I'm not sure how you mean - 5 core records of what ? If you gave a little more info, perhaps we could make a suggestion. What's a federated server ? How is that part of the DB design ? What are you storing exactly ?

The only reliable way to tell what level of hardware you need to run on is to load test your application. Proper design and indexing can typically make a performance difference of 10-100x. So a well designed and implemented system can easly run on a tenth of the hardware of a poorly designed one.
BTW I've worked on non-federated SQL servers with billion row tables and thousands of concurrent users and as long as we kept everything well tuned we didn't have any problems.

I tried to install MSDE on windows XP but the installation near the end and its Rollback , i tried to install Server service but its already installed and running i tried to check File and Prenter Sharing but it is installed and running , how could i pass this problem i am using MSDE whtch came inside SQl Standard Edition CD

Probably there was a previous installation of SQL Server/MSDE that was uninstalled. When SQL Server is uninstalled, databases are not deleted. Check C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server for existance, and delete everything in it.

Hi, ajith,
Best practice to put your database on the web is using ASP(Active Server Pages) which runs on the VBScript.
Since , I do not know any way to connect VB forms on the web, I can assure, ASP will do all the job for you.
There is no different connection string..
You need a IIS server, SQL Server. I advice you to install IIS and then type "http://localhost/" in the URL ( Address bar in Internet explorer). You will get ASP help. You need to read manual for ADO also, refer MSDN.
Best way to connect using a ODBC connection,
So set up a ODBC connection for your SQL Server - Database(Ex: DSN=testSQL)
Create Coonection as follows

Conn.Open "DSN=testSQL",<username>,<password>

With SQL Server 2000, I can execute the following SQL command:
select * from table1 select * from table2
The output contains two record sets, one for each select statement. But if I do this with Oracle or MS Access (via ODBC connections), I got syntax errors. The question is, what is the correct way to execute a SQL command with two or more select statements? Is it supported by Oracle? Is there a way to get around it?

P.S. I know the problem is not with ODBC itself because I can do this with SQL Server 2000 via ODBC connection.

if both tables are identical, you can use
'Select * from tab1
UNION
Select * from tab2'
in fact you can use the UNION statement whenever querys return a identical resultset.

hi everyone,
ım using .net and sql server 2005, ı have a report project and this project have parameters.think that like "primary school" and "high school fields". sometimes, ı want to filter outputs with two parameters, and sometimes ı want to filter with just one parameter. thats the time that ı have problems. when ı pass only a parameter, ı want that this report doesnt care with the second parameter. but, it understands it (param1=something_ı_want, param2=null). then it searches for null values in second parameter and as an output, ı have nothing.
do you know how can ı fix that problem, how can ı say to this report "dont care with second parameter, ı only ask for first one"?

i think u r using crystal report,better you pass recordset to the report at runtime. At run time you can frame your SQL as you want and create the recordset and assign that record set to the report. that will be very flexible than using the parameters in report

I have a field which name is Information
and it type is Varchar (8000),but some time data access than 8000 character, my client told me,make this field to store Unlimited data.
So how can i achive this task, i m using VS 2003 (ASP.NET with VB.NET) with SQL 2000.

Look up ntext, text and image in SQL books online. These types will let you store data blobs limited only by the storage space on the server. They do have limits on the types of queries you can run on them so make sure they fit your needs.
