I need help. I created server application broadcasting UDP packets to 255.255.255.255 address. Client application is listening on the same machine.
I create socket, than call m_sock.SetSockOpt(SO_BROADCAST, TRUE);
and later m_sock.SendTo(string, n, m_port, "255.255.255.255");
and
m_sock.SendTo(string, n, m_port, "127.255.255.255");
The 2nd call is necessary, because when the machine has only loopback interface, 1st call fails.
Problem is:
1. My customers client application receives packets only if the machine is connected to a router.
2. My testing client, written in C# receives packets doesn't matter the machine is or is not connected to a router. But in some cases - if the machine is connected for example to a wireless network - my client gets the data twice.
I don't understand it at all - what is wrong with customers application (no source code available ) and why is broadcasting behaviour not consistent - sometimes sending to "255.255.255.255" is received on localhost and sometimes not.

I’m not at home so I can’t just pick up my TCP/IP book. As memory serves 255.255.255.255 is a reserved IP for the routing table. If you need to always connect back to the local host whether or not the computer is on a LAN use 127.0.0.0 as the IP.
There is a reason NOT to use 255.255.255.255 for this purpose but I just for the life of me can’t remember all of the details.

In VS2005 Beta the oersonal web kit is available, I have loaded and CTR+F5 the I closed the page and tryed to add a user as it says in the doc, the page is loaded and after I click the Security tab this error is shown:
"There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store.
The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation."
How can I FIX THIS?

Your question is a bit unclear. It seems you are trying to calculate someone's birthday by using some date as input. Is that correct? What does this date represent?

Hello this is my first java game and is very simple and easy. I have written the code below and was wondering if anyone would help me by making some suggestions on how I could clean up some inefficiences in the program or recode some of it to make it run smoother and more efficiently.

Hi,
I'm a .NET programmer for a large international IT services company which is making a huge push to attract .NET programmers to our camp. Especially if you're in the Netherlands, where we employ 10.000+ people and are looking to hire 475 more by the end of the year...whether you're very experienced, limited experience, or just out of school and you want to .NET there's probably a place for you with us. But not just NL, the push for programmers is also true for every country where we are located which is almost every continent of the world (I don't think we're in Antarctica), so just contact me and I'll get your CV to the right person to get you an interview.
We've got excellent pay, benefits, training, auto, laptop, mobile phone, etc. We've got our own massive proprietary .NET library which is extremely cool to have access to. Drop me a line per email and I'll tell you more about the company. I can walk your CV right in the door and you'll be sure to at least get a first interview from it.
Java programmers are just as desired, so mail me at:

The company is Atos Origin. Use the link to take a look at more specific descriptions of the jobs we're offering and where. When you send me your CV please tell me what location would be most interesting to you and I will get to the right person for that location within the company.
Atos sometimes does work permits if they really want somebody badly - but the highest chance of success is of course to already have a work permit for the location where you want to work. It just makes it a lot easier for HR to say yes.

I think that employers put too much emphasis on having prior experience when considering new hires. After 10+ years developing commercial C++ software in four different companies, I've observed that the worst programmers in your place of work tend to be those that:
1) Type very slowly. I don't mean they type awkwardly or are not touch typists. I just mean they are slow.
2) Have little to no formal training in computer science. I've worked with many computer/electrical engineers, math/physics grads who have taken a computer science option in university and are excellent programmers. But those same types of grads without any formal training usually suck big time. My observation is based on my own experience, not in regards to members of this site. There may well be many great articles on CodeProject written by people who are self-taught programmers, etc. These people likely have a gift or talent for programming.

In my current project , i use my own control library derived from DevEx controls and some other other open source controls i got from code project . I add these controls to my toolbar but when i update my controls in the libarary, designer(in another project) causes different problems , usually controls instances remain in the source code but they don't appear on designer. I've tried almost everything ,it doesn't work that way ..Is there anybody who has a reasonable solution for that ? (VS 2003)
