There's nothing in ASP .NET 2.0 (actually, to connect to the database you're using ADO .NET from ASP .NET) that shouldn't work with SQL2K.
This error message is quite weird (provided you're using connection string you've posted). Try to debug your web app to identify the particular line of code causing the error.

You don't give enough information about your problem to know if sockets will solve it, but if you do end up writing a TCP server in your service, you can't put the listening code in OnStart .
The simplest way to do this is with a blocking listener socket, and if you put it in OnStart , your service will never completely start. Put the listener on a different thread, and spark up the thread in the OnStart event. OnStart completes, and your service is off to the races.
This isn't scalable but works well for, say, proxying requests for remote resources by a single application.
private static TcpListener _listener = null;
private static Thread _listenerThread = null;
...
protected override void OnStart(string[] args) {
_listenerThread = new Thread(new ThreadStart(MessageQueue));
_listenerThread.Start();
}
...
private static void MessageQueue() {
_listener = new TcpListener(System.Net.IPAddress.Any, 4242);
_listener.Start();
while (true) {
TcpClient client = _listener.AcceptTcpClient();
NetworkStream stream = client.GetStream();
Dig?
Share and enjoy.

How do you mean 'show me the database' ? Do you mean you'll have a grid and changing the date will post back and change what's shown in the grid ?

I'm wanting to search a database on the "Title" field, but as I have it now, I must enter the complete title. What I want to do is search for the first partial match. Any suggestions.
Thanks
private void btnFind_Click(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
{
DataView dvFind = new DataView(dsMedia.Tables["tblMedia"], "", "Title",
DataViewRowState.CurrentRows);
int RowIndex = dvFind.Find(txtFind.Text.ToLower());
//if RowIndex is equal to -1 then no match was found
if (RowIndex == -1)
MessageBox.Show("No Match Found!");
else
this.BindingContext[dsMedia, "tblMedia"].Position = RowIndex;
}

Hi,
does someone know if it is possible to embed a flash file(.swf) in a C# application for Pocket Pc? I have no trouble doing this on a desktop project, but when I start project for Pocket Pc, that shockwave flash object is greyed out.
Best Regards
Magnus

Yes that works fine for me. The problem is to embed the swf in a application that i'm writing in C#.
I need to use the c# application as a form of a shell that will send pictures from the camera on the PDA to the swf and also allow saving text strings.

Thanks again, I also found that Odyssey CFCOM but from what I understood on their homepage it was pretty expensive, atleast for me.
I should look into the possibility for me to upgrade my .NET, cause that might be the best way to do it.

Hello all,
I develped an application it suppose to access SQL server Via internet i need to know if there is a special ports to use and what is the String connection to use.
Please help.
Hoho

This is possible, but keep in mind that opening up SQL server to the internet is a huge security risk. If you need to read data from SQL server over the internet, have an application sitting on the server you wish to connect to that will talk to SQL for you.
That said, port 1433 is the default SQL port. You'll need to forward this port to your SQL server machine in whatever router(s) you may have. Also, SQL can be configured to use a different port, in which case you'll need to specify in the connection string using "Data Source = [addressOfMachine]\[portToUse]", for example, "Data Source = "192.168.1.5\6000" if your SQL server is on the machine at address 192.168.1.5, publishing on port 6000.
If you need to know what a typical connection string looks like, read up on connection string here[^].
