Hi again..
I'm looking for some developers who are just generally interested in anything new to informally review our product from a development perspective. Our software is aimed at the home/building automation market but it's really more like a development tool than anything else (since it has it's own built in server, code editor with auto-complete etc, totally dynamic object model with multiple inheritance, i/o completion based tcp & serial interface, VB scripting host, script debugger, web server, media management etc). In fact it's pretty much only the precanned schema that we ship with it that focuses the product on home automation.
We don't market it to developers even though it could be used for all kinds of development purposes - in fact I have a hunch it'd be a pretty good OOP teaching tool for instance.
I'd be very interested to see what a classical developer might make of it especially as myself and my colleagues are a little too close to the code to objectively review it from this perspective. Some basic knowledge of VB Script might be helpful but not essential.
So let me know if you'd care to look at the thing.

BTW There is no doubt in my mind that the Home Automation area is going to be big. I'd love to be able to hook up the disparate systems I have here at home. Pool heater/pumps/lights, Garden sprinklers, Burglar Alarm, Phone System, Home Theater etc.

Hi,
I'm looking for a couple of beta testers to try out some leak detection software I've been working on, primarily so I can gauge interest in me developing it further. It works quite differently to everything else that is out there. Detects leaks related to the following heaps... BSTR,Global, Local, CRT. Also detects leaks for File and Event handles.
This software is pretty raw (It has a command line user interface) but works well enough. For best results you need symbols (and preferably source) to the program your tracking the leaks for. It doesn't care if you are using retail or debug builds though.
Requirements:
Some C/C++ code - preferably leaky 
Familiarity with typical reasons for leaks
A sense of daring

I will soon release the first version of my killer programm.
It would be nice if some of you can test my setup done with innosetup.
You can download the file on http://exotk.sourceforge.net
The file is exoTKAD_Setup_WithOCC.exe and its size is ~14Mb.
I would like to know if the programm starts without trouble, and if it runs on your system.
If you test it, send me a feedback, with your system (Windows version, processor, RAM, etc...).
Once the programm is started ( if it starts ), you can open some "brep" files in the datas folder.
The view is a 3d viewer, you can rotate,pan,zoom with Ctrl+MouseButton and move in the view.
Once you have the 3d object on the screen, you can select it, and you will have a popup menu with some options. Set the object in shading, change its material, transparency, etc....

I'm trying to track down the scope of a bug, if any of you can spare a couple minutes...
Occasionally a Windows 2000 machine ignores the window region when a window is less than fully opaque. I wish to determine whether this is a limitation of Win2k, or a driver bug. I'm working for a client in a small app that automatically performs some dial-up stuff. During the development of the program, we ran into strange behaviors under Windows 2000 (and also XP): after much investigation we've come to a temptative conclusion that Windows 2000 dial-up component has the following bug:
If several modems are installed on the same COM port and a dial-up connection is set to use one of them, the modem that was installed last is used regardless of the selection.
Altough the problem arose as part of the execution of a program, we think we can also reproduce it manually, without interference from third parties products. SPs seem not to solve anything. Windows XP seems also to be affected by this problem.
The weird thing about this bug (candidate) is that I've found nothing related to it or indicating its ocurrence in the Internet, MSDN or Usenet. This kind of strikes me, as the bug is rather severe. The client is a little suspicious about this, and a confirmation of it being a bug would save my life.
What I kindly request from all of you who have some time spare and the wish to collaborate is that you try to perform the following test to determine if the bug shows in your particular OS, SP and machine scenario. The test goes as follows.- In a Windows 2000 (or XP) machine, install manually two different modems on the same COM port. The modems will preferrably be chosen amongst the predefined list offered by the system. It is not important that you have any modem attached to the COM port. We will call the modem installed first and last A and B, respectively.
- Go to the Control Panel->Modems and click on Properties for modem A. Select the modem loggin option on.
- Do the same for modem B.
- Go to Dial-up connections and create a new dial-up entry that uses modem A. All other parameters are irrelevant, choose whatever you like.
- Try to connect using this dial-up entry. Of course the connection won't succeed (the modem is not even attached to the port), let it fail.
- Inspect the modem logs for both modem A and B. If the bug shows, you will see that it's the modem B log that has some input, instead of modem A.
If you do this test, and the bug shows, please send me an email collecting as much info as you can about your testing scenario: OS, SP, machine, drivers chosen, you know.
If the bug does not show, I'm also interested in knowing
If this finally happens to be a bug I'll try to report it to Microsoft: without some backup data like this, they don't pay much attention to bugs reported online at their website.

Just curious, but why would you want more than one modem on the same com port? Just curious... I will see if I can get our server techy to go through the steps you mentioned on a test machine and see what happens.

I agree with you that the situation is not so common. The app is intended to work for a variety of different modems (actualliy GPRS mobile phones), so I've got all of the drivers installed on my testing machine and switch phones to check that all of them are handled properly. That's why in my world it's nor unusual to have five or more phones at my disposal to connect to the computer

I've been trying to find a program to write Karaoke disks. It seems that no one has yet cracked the code for this! It's a Red Book format, but it uses empty spaces on the disk to store snippets of text and timing information. Has anybody here worked on duplicating the format with a standard CD-RW drive?
I know Karaoke is tacky, but it's fun to watch their faces when I substitute new lyrics. It would be even better if they could all sing along
