I mean, it's a funny running gag, but what's the story behind it?

A lot of people seem to think any and every input box on a website is actually a search feature for that site. So at first, it showed up a lot by mistake...

How could you miss that, Chris?

The Slashdot front page can be good for picking up on weeks old news that you may have missed the first time round... just don't go into the forums if you want to stay sane

At least their polls are funnier. There was one that was just "?" and answers "yes", "no".

They don't show that over here anymore. Although it was in bad taste to see women stripping whilst reading news about casaulties in Iraq... but they were pretty.

The mention of "gossip" news made me think of how quick we are to scorn the tabloid, gossip press while more than a few of us are even quicker to check old El Reg for the daily scoop. That really is a bit of a rag that one.

...that pretty much covers my daily news intake. Once in a while, someone will post a link to an interesting article in The Lounge, or one of the blogs i read will get ambitious and try political commentary, but most days i can depend on most of what i read being either local news, or software-related.
