Greetings,
I am having problems getting access to registry information from an ASP page.
I have a web server set up with an ATL com object that queries the registry for information. On this web server I have an ASP page that calls the registry com object from script.
My problem comes in when I have a computer on a the same local network make a call to the asp page to get information from the web server's registry. No information is returned from the registry(if I hard code values in for the registry values that I return they get returned via the ASP page). It seems like there is a security issue, but I am not sure. Any suggestions?

I hate having a problem, and being stuck on it for awhile, making a post, and right after making the post for help I find the solution.
The solution is to adjust the properites of the ASP page in Web Services under "file security", and select a user that has administrator access rights to login as. Pretty simple to do, but it took awhile to find.

i have a parent window.from that i move to a child window(a popup).then i add records to database.the child window has two textfields to enter the data.After the data is entered,the user clicks the submit button and the page is taken to a page where database is updated and after updation the user is redirected to the child window.
what i want is as soon as updation takes place in the database,the parent window should be refreshed and changes shud be shown in parent window.i don't want to use <meta> tag.
please reply soon.

Hi guys. This morning before work I fired up VS7 and threw a SqlConnection onto a webform and tried to open a connection to a database. I got a SqlClient error stating that "Login failed for user mydevmachinename\aspnet".
Where does this come from? And why am I able to do the exact same thing on a Windows Form without an error?
And yes, it is my first foray into the world of web and database programming

By default all ASP.NET web applications run under the username ASPNET. Also by default you attempt to connect to SQL Server using the current windows login, since you are running it from ASP.NET you are trying to login from the mydevmachinename\aspnet account.
On a Windows Form you don't have the problem because the application runs in the context of the current user (ie you).

you can also sign in with UsserName SA and the password blank like this
Myconn = New SqlConnection("server=your server\NetSDK;initial catalog=pubs;user id=SA;password=;") I ran into the same problem as you and this works great

Server assumed and can be skipped. You can use with same effect Server.MapPath and MapPath or other Server methods

I am using this statement to return some records. The statement using the ASP variable ActiveID to pull records according to categories.
This works fine, but I can't seem to add further variables (e.g. How would I add an ORDER BY statement to this?)
RS1.Open "SELECT * FROM Table WHERE Cat_ID =" & ActiveID, DB1, adopenstatic
What I really want to do is return records updated in the last seven days or so. I have the last modified value stored in a table in the format DD/MM/YY -- is it possible to do a SQL query that will only return records updated in the past seven days?

this should get records updated only in the last seven days as well but I haven't checked this yet as I'm late for work

I have a very simple ASP.NET application that just displays a form.
I can debug it through the IDE but if I try to browse it via IE, I get You are not authorized to view this page
This happens even if I attempt to browse from the IIS MMC or just straight http:\\localhost\WebApplication1
Any ideas, straight standard VS.NET installation on Windows XP.

Do you get that error if you browse to the page directly instead of letting the webserver pick the page for you?

I am just shooting here, but when you look at the properties of your wwwroot folder and click on the web sharing tab, you do have the share the folder radio clicked right?

My default documents list didn't have the default.aspx page listed, so it couldn't load the start page. If i browsed to any other form directly it worked.
Doh! That's what you get with playing with new toys late at night.

Is it posssible to get a filename on the webserver, so that I pass a filename relative to a codebehind page and it gives me the filename relative to the page I am writing (using Response.Write).
For example, I have a code behind page called PageWriter.cs in /mhc/Scripts/CodeBehind. I want a function that will take a filename such as "../Index.xml" (indicating /mhc/Index.xml) and if I am writing the page /mhc/Index.html, give me the original filename relative to /mhc/Index.html, which would be simply "Index.xml". Am I making any sense? I want to give it the filename relative to the codebehind page, and get the filename relative to the page I am writing.
