It will tell you that in order for C++ to call C#, the C# assembly should be written in such a way that C++ can treat it as a COM object.
In your case, you want the UI part to be in C#, and for business logic and processing part you want to continue the C++ MFC code. So the better way is to do the opposite - make the C# call your existing C++ code. Create a new C# project, create your UI, and when it is time to code the business logic, make calls to a C++ DLL. Convert your C++ code to a COM object. Then you can call it directly from your C# application. Now if you are too lazy to do COM, and if your C++ MFC code is not really so gigantic, you can consider a re-write. Create a C# project, create your desired flashy cool UI, and type in the business logic part in C# as well. As you have said "I am new to Dot Net" - by doing so you will be 1 step farther from calling yourself "new"...

As u know my application is VC++ Doc-View application and, i want to create custom User controls like tree control in C# as a component DLL (may be) and want to add to my DOc View application frame.
Is this possible? if not...which other way can i solve the problem
My Problem is that i cannot rewrite the code as C# (as the VC APP is gigantic)

Sorry you cannot. Reason is simple - a user control in the MFC document-view architechture interacts with the framework using a unique messaging system. It is just not an external assembly that you plug in. The design is from Microsoft days when .NET was not there. A C# assembly can give you a GUI, but you cannot display it from a VC++ MFC document-view project. At least I am not aware of any miracle that will let you do that.
Now coming to what practical alternatives you have. Firstly, believe me the C# tree control is not that great a control. It has numerous limitations that will frustrate you immensely. The very concept of a cool control that lets you do plenty of bells and whistles might have resulted in your brain being "c-sharpized".
With some searching and luck, you will find numerous complex user controls/ Activex objects developed in C++ that you can highly use in your project seamlessly. If it is not a binding to use C# (which you can't), you may look around for cool controls developed in VC++. Codeproject has many, and other forums have many too.
If you are more specific about the exact kind of control that you want, I can do some parallel searching too, if you don't mind that is

I tried to use this http://www.codetools.com/csharp/pdfizer.asp?print=true[^] , this converts good but fails converting HTML to as it looks. It uses the itextsharp and NTidy. The conversion of the <font> tag bgcolor etc dont work, and no images or links can be converted.
I saw the itextsharp http://sourceforge.net/projects/itextsharp/[^] , the tutorials there and all but I figure it real tough to convert HTML (as is) using just itextsharp.dll
So does anyone know a better way to do it?

it is open source free of all charges, and they have sample php code that convert html file to pdf.

hi all,
i have two tables (table1 and table2). table1 contains table2's fields and a few extra fields.
example:
table1(x,y,z,t) in this table: x & y are text fields.
table2(x,y) > in this table: x & y are date/time fields.
my question is: i want to search for some data in database according to the field types in table2 but i want to get values from table1.
to make it crystal clear: lets say x is startdate and y is enddate. i can compare date values in table2. but in table1 x & y values are just text fields.
lets consider one example: 6/6/2006 6/16/2006. if you compare these two values as date: second one is bigger. (returns 1) but if you compare these two values as text. first one is bigger!
so my problem is: i want to compare date values and get z,t from table1 according to search comparision results.
finally set the result to a dataset ?

Just use cast(x as datetime) or the convert function with similar syntax and it'll magically convert to a datetime value. That is, if it's properly formatted, although you seem to believe that it is.

I admire ur effort in tryin to make ppl understand ur problem. However, it is a bit confusing to understand still. In relational databases and even in the one u mentioned either table1 or table2 has x and y as foreign keys. Wht I dont understand is r u having trouble with comparing or retrieving.
To compare dates you can use DateTime.Compare
and to retrieve values u need command and data reader.
for instance, u write
cmd = new OleDbcommand("Select z,t from Table1 where result ='"+ variable_with_compare_result+"'"",Conn);
result can be a variable at runtime or another column in the database that stores the comparision result.

Looks like you and Gulfaraz are working on the same homework problem.
How was your spyware signature generated? All you have to do is run the same routine on your file. I'd imagine it's just a byte-by-byte comparison.

have you any idea about generation of a signature. i am working on it from last many days, but i am unalbe to solve my problem, i read topics about it, every one says signature has this quality, it is secure etc, but no one says do it in this way. so i wrote this query, may some one reply me which can be useful. may any one tell me the algorithm or something useful.

Unfortunately I couldn't connect it. What could be the problem? (I checked the IP number and it is correct. Also I could connect local database). I tried some other connection strings but none of them could connect.

What's the error you got? Is this ASP.NET code, or in some WinForm app?
You're probably dealing with an authentication error: the user that the code is running as doesn't have login rights to the server.

I solved it. I used a winform. After I added my user name (Windows authentication) I could connect. However if I use the same connection string which is below I couldn't connect in Asp application. Is there any idea?
