Yes, right !! It's an additional income but sometimes it's a good way to test platforms or to be updated !!!

What is this leisure time you speak of?
I'd love to help, but unfortunatley I have prior commitments monitoring the length of my grass. :Andrew Bleakley:

To some, this is the moment when you hope time will stop. I can be also the moment when you think time is so slow.

Answer is so simple, why you need to ask such a question. On other parts of the world, developers are not lucky to earn too much for a simple job as in USA.

I ask because there might be several reasons. If you had read the replies, you would have seen that people actually have different reasons for doing side work.

I don't know how much you earn in the USA, because I've never worked there.
From a few newspaper article I know that in the USA many people need two jobs to make a living. I aked here to get first hand reports rather than journalist's talk, because where I live one job usually is enough.

From my experience, this is true. Though in general I think Americans are also poor at saving money. It is very tempting to buy things on credit. Many fall into that trap and then have to do the two/three job thing to dig themselves out.
I do lots of side work, but not because I need to; I just like doing it. The extra cash is just a nice bonus.

I am not sure about places where the rent/housing costs are rediculous but where I live (Pittsburgh PA) a software developer can live well on a single job I guess unless you are the only bread winner and you have 6 or more kids...
