im new at this i make new dialogs but inserting them into the project its the only way i know how to do it. but i start the second dialog with Domodal() so iit is a modal an example on how to make a modless would help alot. and abouve all else i dont want GUI responsiveness problems.

The link I provided in the previous post has the steps for letting a worker thread do the work while posting progress status messages to the main dialog. That's just one of many ways to utilize a worker thread. I'm not sure a modeless dialog will solve your problem. I've learned to dislike modeless dialogs and find them rather useless and troublesome to work with anyway.
I think you'll find the worker thread is the best solution when performing a lengthy operation without "blocking" the main GUI thread.

i read the link page and im as lost now as i was before i read it as i said im new to programming and ive never had to make a worker thread so i heve no clue about how to do it or put what where.

I apologize for the confusion.
I put together a demo dialog app that simulates processing 500 files with an artificial delay in the processing loop to demonstrate the worker thread and abort button on a seperate progress dialog box. The progress box is modal but it's GUI remains responsive because it spawns a worker thread to perform the simulated processing.
I'm guessing this is what you were after.
Important areas are at the bottom of the stdafx.h and in the message maps. I tried to comment it well but you have to rememebr that it's just simulating some work in the worker thread loop so use your imagination a bit.
Anyway, I'll send you an email and if you feel the short demo will benefit you then just respond back via email and I'll zip and attach it to a reply mail. I wrote it in VC++ 6.0. I have VC++ 2003 if you for some reason can't get it to work. Just let me know if any problems and I'll convert it to 2003 and see what I need to change (if anything).

I got your reply and sent the demo.
I just realized that I never set the variable m_Title so you can just ignore any reference to it. It was just meant to allow concatenating the application title with the current progress stats in the title area.

Hi, I should try installing an application message hook with SetWindowsHookEx or finding the real flash window and changing it's gwlp_wndproc.

Handle the WM_RBUTTONDOWN and WM_CONTEXTMENU message in the PreTranslateMessage funtion. When any of this mesage arrives, check whether the handle is of the ActiveX control. If so do not call the base class' PreTranslateMessage funtion but u show ur own context menu.

How can I view the (optimized) Release
Assembly Code in Visual C++ 6 with debug
info - or at least with function names?
Or how can I find a special function?
I noticed that the debug code is quite
inefficient - for example redundant jumps,
even local variables are never kept in
registers, the this-pointer is moved to an
register in nearly every code-line, sometimes
several times, and so on...
Is the release code better? It speeds up
the execution (of my Raytracer) a little
bit, but not as much as I hoped.

I think you should go to Project --> Settings --> C/C++ --> Category: Listing Files --> Listing file type and select Assembly with Source Code. In this case the compiler will generate ASM files and you can investigate them.

I have a class with over 25 data variables that have to be set or changed regularly by the user. What, in your experience, is the best strategy to use to set them? For example, should I put a vector in the class that contains the 25 variables and search for itthem all in a vector and when the user changes one go find the specific variable and change it? Or should I just use 25 set and 25 get functions for each one? The user will pick a drop down box and choose which one they want to change. I am wondering what is the most efficient way to implement that on the back end.

i have 2 combo boxs im my project have the data added to them have the control var's
CComboBox m_takeout;<br />

set and have
m_putin.SetCurSel(0);<br />
m_takeout.SetCurSel(0); in my OnInitDialog();
but it not setting the data into the edit part of the control.
anyone know why?

in the properties of the combo boxes in the data tab is where i put the data in the combo boxes like ive always done i just dont know why it isnt showing anything.

Hello, I have received some help from earlier postings and have another question regarding the <list> class.
I have stored a list of items that are of a user-defined datatype and need a way of printing each item in the list. As shown below a struct has been defined of type data which includes 4 strings. The full program receives input by a user who types in a list of these objects of type data.
I was wondering if storing this list as a vector using a <vector> class is a better solution since I need to access each individual string per item in the vector.
