What do you mean by adding dataadapter to datagrid, the statement looks contradict. Can you please clearly explain your requirements?

Database source could be a dataset, datatable you can set a datatable, datakeyfield is the unique identifier in the datatable.

Hello Everyone:
We are currently a small classic ASP shop (8 developers); we are struggling to Migrate to .NET 2.0 and don’t have the luxury of bringing in consultants to set us up for it. We were wondering if we could get some help from you guys in setting up our infrastructure for ASP.NET 2.0.
Currently we are evaluating tools such as Team Suite and Foundation Server etc. but due to the great price difference in b/w Team Suite and Foundation Server we are more geared towards Foundation Server unless anyone up here suggests otherwise.
Any heads up, suggestions, comments, warnings will be highly appreciated. Thanks.
Regards,
Robert

Foundation Server won't do you any good without the development tools, Visual Studio Team System.
IMO as a small shop just getting into 2.0 I would start with VS.NET 2005 Pro.
It depends what, if any processes, servers, etc, you have in place as to advice on settting everything up.

Well we had a discussion sessing with Microsoft's sales team and they suggested VS.NET 2005 Pro with Foundation server (to setup a team environment rather then isolated development.) OR VS Team Suite. So, yes for development tools we are going with VS 2005 Pro.
We do not have a good picture as to how the structure will be setup considering the fact that in Classic ASP we do not have a buil server or any build process at all. We are getting some servers for Development and Production envrionment.
Please let me know if you need more information or if I need to clearify something. Thanks.

Robert

Of course they are going to recommend a $20,000 server option for team development
Although it does provide many benefits, and I have recommended it to other clients, there are plenty of shops that don't need it or use it.

This is the way I understood it (and please correct me if I am wrong):
We would purchase 8 licenses of VS.Net 2005 Pro for our team. But since VS Pro does not have tools like source safe etc we would get Foundation Server which will provide us with the tools that we need to create a Team Environment. Is that correct? or am I way off?
Thanks.

Why not just go for MSDN subscriptions - could probably finagle it so you get what you need with the various editions around

Hi,
I'm trying to update a datagrid using
SqlCommand updateBuilding=new SqlCommand("UPDATE Buildings SET bName ='"+e.Item.Cells[3].Text+"',bAddress ='"+e.Item.Cells[4].Text+"',bState ='"+e.Item.Cells[5].Text+"',bCity ='"+e.Item.Cells[6].Text+"',bZip ='"+e.Item.Cells[7].Text+"' where (bCode ='"+e.Item.Cells[2].Text+"')",conn);
where e is System.Web.UI.WebControls.DataGridCommandEventArgs
It doesn't work.After I put a break point and looked in the debug window this is what I saw:
"UPDATE Buildings SET bName ='',bAddress ='',bState ='',bCity ='',bZip ='' where (bCode ='')"
Any ideas?
Thanks

Maybe it's just because we need to write a tag with a backslash before when you write a string, that way: "\'".

it was like this
((TextBox)e.Item.Cells[4].Controls[0]).Text
Now..i have an other problem
After I hit the edit button, it doesn't enter the edit mode..it shows only plain text.here is the code.
private void DataGrid1_EditCommand(object source, System.Web.UI.WebControls.DataGridCommandEventArgs e)
{
DataGrid1.EditItemIndex=e.Item.ItemIndex;
BindGrid();
}
void BindGrid()
{
SqlCommand fillGrid=new SqlCommand("Select * from Tenants",conn);
fillGrid.Connection.Open();
DataGrid1.DataSource=fillGrid.ExecuteReader();
DataGrid1.DataBind();
fillGrid.Connection.Close();

It's always a pain... To type words into google...
http://www.google.com/search?q=visual+studio+remote+debugger&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official
If your using VS2005 try the top one. If not try one of the next couple ones down or modify the search slightly.

Hi,
How do i make the gridview, or at least certain fields editable at runtime.
I'm manually binding data to a blank datagrid.
I know prdefined columns in the grid have a readonly property, but that property is gone in runtime!
please help.
Regards,
Tintin

You set what controls should be used in the EditTemplate of the datagrid, in the case non-editable fields just use a label. At runtime you can set the EditItemIndex to put that row into edit mode

Hello,
I am trying to edit and update data in a GridView Control so I handle the RowEditing Event to set the GridView.EditIndex so the edit appropriate controls appear. I add the following code in the event handler:
protected void GridView1_RowEditing(object sender, GridViewEditEventArgs e)
{
GridView1.EditIndex = e.NewEditIndex;
}
The problem is that when I click the edit button the edit controls doesn't appear except when I click it once more and I can't figure out why is this happening.
Can someone tell what is going on??
Thanks

You must add a method to refresh the grid like this:
GridView1.EditIndex = e.NewEditIndex;
UpdateView()
-----------------
void UpdateView()
{
GridView1.DataSource = datasource;
GridView1.DataBinding();
}
Good luck!
