Example:
function postForm(formToPost) {
formToPost.submit();
}
<input type="button" value="Send" 0nclick="postForm(this.form);" />
As they have used a backward method of handling posted code in this message board, certain keywords can not be used. Replace the 0nlick keyword with the obvious existing event.

Hello,
I have a windows application that uses a sql server remote database.
Which is the best method to deploy an application that has to connect to a remote server on an another computer, that is part of the LAN Network.
I have been told that during installation the connection will be setup.
At the moment I am using the sqlclient connection. I have my connection string in the app.config. But when the customer installs that want to be able to browse to the server that they will have to connect to.
Well as I have never deployed, I will never know what is best.
Give you could give a short example, i would be most grateful.
Thanks

i have an application that searches records from a database, sometimes the recors are too many and i want to brake them into individual pages showing a max of 10 records per page. i tried using paging recordset feature from dreamweaver but it does not work well, it repeats records.
Please help me with any code that i can impletemt, here is the connection and query:
Dim Recordset1
Set Recordset1 = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
Dim MM_objConn_STRING
set MM_objConn_STRING=server.CreateObject("ADODB.connection")
MM_objConn_STRING.open = "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;DataSource=datatest\INST1;Database=datatest;uid=user_name;Pwd=password;Network Library=DBMSSOCN;"
Recordset1.ActiveConnection = MM_objConn_STRING
Recordset1.Source = "SELECT idmum,namefirst,namelast,namemiddle FROM tbl_test where namelast like 'smith' "
I am displaying results in a table.
Thank you.

What you really want is to write a stored proc that returns just the page you need.
The way you do this is a nested query. The internal query returns all the records up to the last one you wanted, the outer query returns the records you wanted, using top.

Hi!
Use the following statements to determine how many pages are there. ItemsCount is a variable so you can assign a value to it. It means the pages will show maximum recordNumber for per page. nPageCount tells you how many pages are there according to given ItemsCount.
ObjectRecord.PageSize = ItemsCount
nPageCount = ObjectRecord.PageCount
The other part is to add pages as numbered from 1...to x on bottom of pages. It is easy I beleive you can solve it.

vola Mike!So "Cross Frame scripting" is the key. You know I had a bad time patching up the search key in google.But Google was intelligent enough to understand my poor key and I atlast got the job done . Anyway thanks for the links.. I'm gonna read them one by one. Web programming is interesting too

I'm having real problems getting an ASP.NET project and VSS source control to work on my machine. The folder for the web project isn't under wwwroot, but in the solution folder. VS 2003 cannot see the web project.
Now I think this may be something to do with users, but I can't even imagine how the IUSR etc. accounts work because my Users config is the XP "Idiot" panel, where I only have Admin and Limited users. This may sound dumb, but I've never had to deal with this stuff before.

VS2005 is greatly improved in this regard. Assuming that you've got the virtual directory set up in IIS, however, I can't imagine why VS2003 would fail to open it. How do you mean it 'can't see it'. Aren't you pointing VS2003 to a solution ? The other thing is, if the virtual or actual directory changes, VS2003 can have real issues.

OK, I haven't had any problems with VS2005, but we are constrained to keeping the solution 2003 for now. Let me elaborate on my situation:
I start fresh, never having worked on the solution before. I get the whole solution from SourceSafe. The solution contains many class libraries and one web application. After getting the solution I configure the web application working folder as an IIS virtual folder, with browse and write permissions, all else default.
I then open the solution, and VS 2003 tells me the web project is not available. I then try and remove the project and add it again. I choose "Add existng project from web", and I select the web project URL. Then VS doesn't present allow me to add the project as it maintains it doesn't exist, although I have navigated to its folder. Even if I type the name of the project file directly, it maintains it doen't exist.
I have also tried setting up the web project folder and virtual folder before getting the solution, with exactly the same results. I subjected myself to a complete machine rebuild yesterday and will make another attempt today again.

Try HTMLDoc[^]
We use an older previous version, which was free but with some limitations.

I'd like to be able to read the machines motherboard serial number with vb 2005 web. I want to use this serial number to make sure the user is logging in from the same computer.
If this isn't possible I'd take other ideas to do a computer check validation. Thanks

I doubt you can do that. You CAN get a variety of info about the machine, at least you can get it from jscript, that's what those sites do when they show you your IP and your machine type, to try and scare you into buying 'security' software.

Hi i have 6 drop downlist in the order of 6 rows. each dropdown is filled with a value ranging from 1 to 3. which represents their preference. I have created three columns in database and names 1st, 2nd and 3rd preference. now how will i be able to get users first second and third preference.
user can select only 3 preference from 6 rows.
example below
1. dropdown1 Apple
2. dropdown2 Orange
3. dropdown3 Banana
...
...
...
please help.
|
|
|
|
|
You must store the "ID" of the dropdown in database.
If you dropdowns are named DD_apple, DD_orange, DD_banana, ... and the prefs from user are 2,1,3 you store in DB:
pref1 = "DD_orange", pref2 = "DD_apple", pref3 = "DD_banana".
But I prefer an other solution. I would create 3 columns (for Pref1-3). In each column you have a dropdown with values "apple", "orange", "banana", ... and you store the value from the combo1-3 in you 3 attributes in database. This solution is better extensible in future for more values and/or prefs.
Best regards
Stephan

I know thats the way i should store the data in database but my problem is how will i know which dd was selected 1 so that i could store in column of first preference and so forth for 2nd pref and 3rd pref.
it looks like there will be lots of if and else block do you have any idea how can i strip out the correct dropdown with 1,2,3 ?
please help

Hm.
At first a question. Do you have think over my second solution (3 Columns for the 3 Prefs)? That solves really all problems and questions but it is a little redesign of code, struct and database.
Second: Normally you MUST HAVE 4 entries in the combobox (0,1,2,3) or ('','1','2','3'). Otherwise the user can not deselect a preference and the 0 ('') should be the default selection. Now you can get Combobox.SelectedIndex. This is direct the preference the user choice.
Additional Idea. Write a JavaScript for onChange in the combo (I think you should have this to validate, that user choice only 3 of the 6). In this JS-Func prepare the value of a hidden input element and store there the pref order of combo. Example: User select (6 combos): 0,0,2,1,0,3 -> value of hidden element should be: 4,3,6. Do you understand ?
Another additional idea. JS-Func for onChange in the combo but 3 hidden elements HD_pref1, HD_pref2 and HD_pref3.
function setPref2Hidden (obj, comboindex) {
var val = obj.value;
if (0 != val) {
document.getElementById ("HD_pref" + val).value = combo_index;
}
}
Use it as (Note: CP replace the onChange-keyword below throug "removed" :->:
<select id="DD_pref1" onChange="setPref2Hidden(this,1)" ...>
yselect id="DD_pref2" onChange="setPref2Hidden(this,2)" ...>
<select id="DD_pref3" onChange="setPref2Hidden(this,3)" ...>
...
In CodeBehind store the content of the 3 Hiddens in Database.
Greets

Hey All,
I'm having a bit of a problem with loading some images using javascript. What I'm trying to do is parse out a query string value, and load an image using that value.
For instance, if someone went to:
http://www.mydomain.com?person=JohnDoe
It would parse out the name from the query string and load JohnDoe.gif into a image named portrait and write a cookie with that information; if there were no query string value, it would would load a default image. Now, this works in Firefox, but not IE; IE just results in that irritating little red "X" broken image box.
My Javascript:
========================
//get name from GET string
function GetName(CookieKey)
{
//try to read the key "name" value from cookie
var personalimg = readCookie('name')
if (personalimg) //if the cookie exists, load the image with the same name
{
//this appears to be the part that isn't working in IE only (firefox is fine)
//I have checked the image paths and the files do exist
document.contact.src="./images/people/" + personalimg + "Contact.gif";
}
else // if no cookie, check for name in query string or load default image
{
var query = window.location.search.substring(1);
var pair = query.split("=");
//if the cookie contains the key name, load it's value into the image
if (pair[0] == CookieKey)
{
document.contact.src="./images/people/" + pair[1] + "Contact.gif";
document.cookie = "name=" + pair[1] + ";"
}
else //load default image
{
document.contact.src = "./images/Contact.gif";
}
}
}
function readCookie(name) {
var nameEQ = name + "=";
var ca = document.cookie.split(';');
for(var i=0;i < ca.length;i++) {
var c = ca[i];
while (c.charAt(0)==' ') c = c.substring(1,c.length);
if (c.indexOf(nameEQ) == 0) return c.substring(nameEQ.length,c.length);
}
return null;
}
==================
My HTML:
==================
<img src="javascript:GetName('name')" name="contact" />
Note that I don't use Javascript too often so any suggestions on how to improve this would be much appreciated, as is any other help.
Thanks in advance!

how to invisable a row or a cell in a table using java script according the change of radio button?

You can hide a row through javascript like this:
document.getElementById('row0').style.dispay = 'none';
Best Regards,
Apurva Kaushal

You can hide a row the way that Apurva Kaushal suggested, but it's not advisable. Tables doesn't work very well with the display property. And hiding cells in a row can have quite unexpected results.
