I have a MDI Project

With a MainFrm (1)
There i open Child-Windows of type CMDIChildWnd (2)
A View of element as type CFormView (3)
And the content of the View is a Dialog (made with the Ressource Designer) (4)

If i start the applic and hit a key on the ChildWindow. Which element does get the OnKeyDown Event?

2 & 3 does it not get.
It's logic that the "highest" Element receive the message -> 4: The Dialog

But i "linked" myself the Dialog to the CFormView ...
I saw that it's possible to create directly the CFormView from out the Designer with "Add Class"

Now i don't have a reaction if i hit a key on the Childform
Is it absolute necessairy to create the CFormView with the Designer?

In my CFormView i have

The event goes to the elemenet that has the focus.
Check differences between onchar and onkeydown events....

Ok i see, that seems logic

So i need to have in each class, that has the focus, a Message-Handler for KeyDown with the corresponding afx_msg On_KeyDown

If i want catch a KeyDown on an CEdit Textbox, i need to derive a class from CEdit that
has a OnKeyDown ...

Can i say this->getParent()->getParent() to access the MainForm ?

Language independent in Dlls

Normal Dlls are language dependent or Not ?
can we use C dll in C++ and viceversa ?

I read that Com Dlls Are Language independent And Normal Dlls Are Not.
Is it True ?

COM are just a specific kind of dll's that follow some rules so that they can be used in different languages. So in brief, if you take some special considerations, your C dll can be used in C++, VB and other languages.

Yes but you have to take care about calling conventions for example (and don't know exactly everything that you need to take care of). Simply search on google and you'll find quite a lot of article

As usual, I checked LNK 2019 , in MSDN Apr-2001. And could not find it. With VS 6.0 its LNK 2001. Thats why asked for error message.
Though, its present in latest one. I should have checked that.

Did you see Requirements on MSDN?
Header: Declared in Psapi.h.
Library: Use Psapi.lib.

Remark from MSDN about Execute:

Execute works only for action queries or SQL pass-through queries that do not return results. It does not work for select queries, which return records.

One way is to derive a class from CDaoRecordset. Then just change the GetSQL() method (it default to SELECT *) to select those columns and rows you want.

I want to print a small bitmap image using c++ (not MFC). I don't have a problem in printing normal text. But now I want to print an image.

Sorry for incomplete information. I want to print using a standard LPT printer. for example, to print some text we can print simply by writing it into a file (naming the file as "LPT1" inside the program). But how do I print a image?

Crystal Reports 9 deployment

Anybody with experiences in deploying CR9 with an application developed in VC 6.0 please help!
I'm pulling my hair out one by one! App should be installed on win98 machines!
I'm using CR9 Crystal Report Viewer Control implemented in my app, with printing, exporting functions as well.
I build my setup package with Inno. I used all the crystal docs could find in the topic of figuring dependencies.
I already have a bunch of files installed. I know the issue with unicows.dll, atl.dll, registering, not registering, etc. When I'm about to show the report in the app, it dies without errormessage.
I already have all the files installed that Dependency Walker shows, same mdac, but still doesn't work.
I developed the app under XP, but since than I installed the VC 6.0 to a win98 machine as well to check dependencies. Is anybody out there who has something similar working on win98? Might be possible to check file versions...

Hi, I got through the same problem some time ago and there is the solution. Inno script with Crystal Report Installation.

I like Inno since it's fast, easy and you have full control over the whole process. Crystal Report msi package is just pain.

Subclassing Control

Hi, I am trying to create a simple control which is a subclass of COMBOBOX. So using MSDE 2003, new C++ MFC project, create control based on COMBOBOX.
How do I expose the combobox's existing functions like AddItem in my subclassed control? Do I have to add same method to both ctrl and interface?
