What events are you interested in, David? There are many events on Windows Forms controls...I've never seen an exhaustive source of docs on the order of events on Win Forms controls. Most of them are pretty straightforward though (Disposing before Disposed, etc).

Thanks for the reply.
Primarily I am looking for the sequence of events for the Text box, Masked Text box, & numeric up/down.
A loooong time ago when I was trying to learn Visual C++ I found documentation on exactly what triggered each event and when. I have not been able to locate anything like that for Visual C#.
Background. 
I am just learning C# after being away from programming for quite a while. I am trying to validate (and limit) user input, and allow controls to change each other depending on which one the user is entering data into (e.g. change in text box1 changes text box2 and vice versa).

Maybe I have to use a form to do that rather than using a messagebox. It seems like a message box depends on the form it is being called.
I do have a form where I have a line of code to call a dialog. From that dialog, I open another form. When the user click ok, I want the first form to close, however it does not close.
here is what I am talking about
for example, assume that my form is form 3, inside my form 3, I have a dialog to open form two. When the user clicks ok, form 2 will open where form 3 will close, however form 3 never closes
inside form 3 I have
if (dialogresponse == dialogresult.ok)
form3.activeform.close();
then create an open form 2
The way to look at it, form 3 only close after form 2 open and close
it does not work, it seems like I have to do that in another form. I don't want fo have a form for that only. Maybe I am missing something.

Hi,
are you using MDI interface style. if yes then try using ActiveMdiChild property.
if not then see if your ActiveForm is not returning null reference. further if you are running this code inside form3, can you not simply call this.close().

I am not using MDI, my application is simply single document or single form. Also I already tried this.close but it does not work

In XP Pro right click the desktop and select "Properties" from the menu.
Select the "Appearance" tab and click the "Advanced" button.
click on the "Active Window" caption bar which will select "Active Title Bar" in the "Item" Combobox. Then select your colour.

Hi, Can anybody tell me how can i put the same pages per sheet document property as we have available on either notepad or wordpad. I can print my contents/data but I also want to display an option to print 2 pages contents on 1 page. I tried to instantiate an object from PrintDialog class and also tried from PageSetting class but neither of them have the property to print on 2 pages.
a general sample
open notepad or wordpad:
Print->Preferences->Layout->pages per sheet.

Umm... Less what?? There are default styles that you could choose from using the Form.FormBorderStyle property. Otherwise you'd have to inherit your own form and customize it as you like. Usually this is done using GDI+.

If you mean changing the color; Use the Form.BackColor property. If you mean giving it a background image; Use Form.BackgroundImage property.

Forgive me if I misunderstood you at first, but dialog box is different from message box. Anyway, changing the message box behaviour/appearance is done by changing windows themes. You can't change your message boxes alone. Another way is to make a form instead of the message box, and put whatever buttons you wish in it. This way you could change it as you like.

This question has been asked many times in this forums, and I haven't seen a satisfying 1-2-3 short answer yet. Yes, there are several ways of doing it, but not in pure C#. Take a look at GDI+[^] section, or C# graphics[^] section. I believe you could find somthing satisfying -it won't be straightforward as I said.
PS. The following two ways are quite hard and way out of the league of C#.
1- You can use GetWindowDC()[^] Windows API function, to get the Device Context of your window -somehting like the graphics object-. Then use Windows API drawing functions to customly drawing your window -including the caption bar-.
2- If you only want to change the gradient color of the caption bar, you can use CreateWindowEx()[^] function. It has variant styles that you can choose from, then box it into a NativeWindow using the NativeWindow.AssignHandle() method.

I used reflector to play around the .net 3.0 framework.
Looking at DependencyObject class, I found a bizzare attribute in use, called FriendAccessAllowed.
Google search yielded 0 results
So maybe someone here knows the answer? (Because I was really looking forward to see a friend classes for c#)

What is the best and most efficient method for reading from a text file. Storing it in a temporary file or variable, and then finally appending it to another file.
Its important the file that it is being appended to does not overwrite what is already in there.

This is pretty standard way of appending text to file: File.AppendText Method [^] It's not efficient enough in your scenario?

Hi,
please note that you need to read the value from an 'instance' of Form2. therefore you will need to, in some way, pass the reference of instance of Form2 to instance of Form1 when you instantiate the later at runtime. e.g in Form1 constructor or using a public method of Form1.
