I put it like this
sn -k "d:\Aleem\DSOControl1\Bin\DSO.snk", still its giving me the same error. What may be the reason. And If its correct, whats the next step that I should do. Please tell me, Thank you.

Now its giving error as this : 1. Unable to emit assembly: Referenced assembly 'Interop.DSOFramer' does not have a strong name.
Please tell me what may be the cause for this. Thank you.

That just generates the key. It doesn't do anything to bind the key into the assembly. In your assembly file (and I'm assuming that you're using VB.NET here) you need an entry like this in AssemblyInfo.vb:
<Assembly: AssemblyKeyFile("d:\Aleem\DSOControl1\Bin\DSO.snk")>

Actually I am using the Interop services in this assembly. I am using a DSO Framer control in this and giving all its functionalities in then I am trying to make it as an assembly. Thats what my problem is.
Whats the problem with my assembly, why is it not building properly. Thank you.

Hello all,
I have a C# windows application and I need it to contact an Axis web service. The service needs a certificate to allow access. I added the certificate into IE.
The weird thing is that when i enter the URL in IE, I get the following message:
<br />
Hi there, this is an AXIS service!<br />
<br />
Perhaps there will be a form for invoking the service here... <br />
I don't get the classical web service screen where you have the list of available methods.
Also, I am unable to make the "add web reference work."
Suppose the URL of the service is https://www.somecompany.com/service/soap.php, when i try to add the reference, I get that the HTML document does not conatain web service discovery information. so I tried this https://www.somecompany.com/service/soap.php?wsdl but I got an error saying the document format is incorrect.
The provider of the web service sent me the wsdl and xsd files. So I thought I would try using wsdl.exe. when I run >wsdl thefile.wsdl it says that it cannot find the xsd file, although the xsd file is located in the same folder and the URL that wsdl.exe says it cannot find is correct!
I tried running wsdl https://www.somecompany.com/service/soap.php directly, i got that the request was aborted because it couldn't create the SSL/TLS secure channel.
What I need to know is, is it possible to connect to such a service? and if so, how?
Thanks in advance.
Talal

Hi all,
Not sure if this is the right place for this but please help if any one can!
I have created a program which i am deploying with clickonce from a file share on our server,
it installed on 2 clients no problem, but on the third a got the error:
Unable to connect to the remote server
A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond
and on the forth machine a got the error:
Unable to connect to the remote server
No connection good be made because the target machine actively refused it
On the forth machine i copied the installation folder to the desktop and started it from there without any problem.
Any help would be greatly appriciated.
Many thanks in advance.

I have a VB.Net 2.0 custom control which allows me to pick a date and a 24 hour time. The control consists of a standard DateTimePicker to select the date and for the 24 hour time a textbox (txtHours) to display the selected hour, a label (lblSelectHours) which consists of an image of the standard dropdown icon and a Panel object. When the user clicks on the dropdown label the Panel, containing one button for each of the 24 hours in a day, should pop up. However, the panel is nowhere to be seen even though I know the label's Click event is firing. I am pretty puzzled about this as the popup panel for the standard DateTimePicker in the control appears perfectly. The Panel object is defined in the control as being off the main area being displayed but when the user clicks the dropdown arrow (the label) the event handler below should set the correct position to appear and set Visible to true:
Private Sub lblSelectHours_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles lblSelectHours.Click<br />
<br />
pnlHours.Left = Me.Left + txtHours.Left<br />
pnlHours.Top = Me.Top + txtHours.Top + txtHours.Height<br />
pnlHours.Visible = True<br />
pnlHours.BringToFront()<br />
<br />
End Sub
So does anyone know why my popup panel won't appear? If I copy the various components of the control and just put them on a form (ie: without the use of a custom control) the panel appears fine with this same code.
TIA for any help...
Mike

I have an issue. I have a datagrid that includes a dropdownlist when I populate it. What I want to happen is, when I load the datagrid, I also preset the dropdownlist to the value (if any) that's in the row from my SQL Server.
Right now, the values in my dropdownlist are 1, 2, and 3 for Not Arrived, In Warehouse, and On Location respectively. In the table, a row may have any one of these three values. Everything else is populated just fine. I'm just at a loss as to how I can programatically preset the value of the dropdownlist to the column value.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. The only other thing I can do is to have the value loaded when they choose to edit the datagrid row. That would work, but it would be nice to have it preset.
Thanks very much! BTW, I'm using VS 2003.

Hi,
Take the Value that is to be selected in the dropdownlist in a table that is binded to grid. And in grid you make that column visible=false.
We have an event ItemDataBound. in this event you write a code to cast the template Drop downlist to a dropdownlist and using the cell value you bind the selected one.
public void DataGrid1_OnItemDataBound(e EventArgs,Object Sender)
{
if(e.Item.ItemType==ListItemType.Item)
{
DropnDownList ddlGridDropDown=(DropDownList)e.Item.FindControl("ContolName");
ddlGridDropDown.SelectedValue=Convert.ToInt32(e.Item.Cells["CellName"].Value);
}
}
Hope this will work for you.
Thanks & Regards.

I see that you got a 1 vote for this. May I suggest that you create an article (or two) about it. This is much more likely to drum up interest.

Beating my head with this one...
How can I add a command line argument to a service written in .Net or, for that manner, can it be done?
Thanks,
Tim

When you create a WindowsService project the wizard generates an OnStart handler for you.
protected override void OnStart(string[] args)
Doesn't get much easier than that.

That's good.. but I am trying to find out how to modify the service startup to pass a command line argument, not the code in the service itself.

Well you select the service in the "Services" MMC Snap-in and right click, select the "Properties" menu item. In the properties dialog there is a "Start Parameters" Text Box.

I was typing a reply to that effect when I received your reply; the only problem with that is that the parameter is not persistent. If the service is stopped/started, the parameter is removed.

Well you asked for the wrong thing then didn't you? What you want is a configuration solution for a Windows Service. Try looking at this article[^]

I am creating my first control.
I am exposing a collection which I can edit perfectly via the property grid (We'll call this names).
Into this collection I can add Forename, Surname, Address etc.
I wish however to have another property exposed where, when the names collection has at least one member, I am able to select a default address from a drop-down populated with the contents of the 'names' collection.
I have seen examples of using GetStandardValues to return a static list of values from inside the type converter, but I cannot figure out how to reference my 'parent' object in order to iterate through the names collection and return values from that.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi All,
I have written a Windows application in C# running on Windows XP/2000 for .NET version 1.1 . When i execute the code, and load one of the modules for the first time, it takes around 3 sec.
After unloading, when the same module is reloaded with all the same parameters, it takes only about 1 sec. All the conditions to reload the module are the same, all the SP's called are the same, which i cross verified by the ANTS performance profiler!!! But still there is considerable time difference!!!
I thought that this difference was because of the JIT compilation which CLR does for the first time and for the successive times, JIT doesnt come into the picture, hence the time difference.
But I tried generating the Native images (pre-compile the code) of the complete code using "ngen", and after observation, concluded that the behavior still pertained.
I am now unable to locate the problem as in why the time difference exists?
1. Is it that im using "ngen" wrongly?
2. Is there some other reason for the strange behavior?
I would be extremely thankful on receiving valuable inputs from the forum,
Rajesh

The hardware and OS caching of the files that are loaded into memory? You should see the same sort of difference with a native EXE.
