(1) ReadyBoost - I got an 8MB CF card from a second hand digital camera and plugged it in to my laptop - and got a 30% speed boost on my busiest workload.
(2) Canon (and Nikon) RAW codec - so I can view the RAW shots from my camera as easily as if they were jpegs.

As for number 2, theres been a tool released from Microsoft for XP which has been doing this for a while, right here.[^]
I think this has been my first post in over a year, yikes!

Trying to write a complex .msi that will work on any vista configuration (and any other OS) without getting caught up in the UAC junk is a nightmare. Only simple .msi's created with Visual Studio install and uninstall clean. I've got a few that require hand shaping with Orca.exe and I'm finding some unorthodox things Microsoft did concerning security, custom actions, deprecated items that requires a hell of a lot of research to get around.
I feel so productive right now, I could cry.

Welcome to my world. Wix makes things a bit better, but as soon as you run into any trouble, good luck finding any helpful docs. Sure there are docs, but they say a lot and yet don't actually say anything, if that makes sense. MS blogs have helped a couple of times, but that's only good if the blogger happened to talk about the exact thing you're stuck on.
The MSI section of MSDN should say "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here" on its entry page.

I felt that way years ago when I created these blasted things. Now I feel like someone should just shoot me. We packaged up a couple of different MSI's into one and I was stupid enough to use custom action 7 and 39 (nested installations or I guess they now call them "concurrent installations"). They also now call it deprecated.
It all works great if I use a bootstrapper with a security manifest to spawn the .msi but that seems like a cheesy way to get by.
msidbCustomActionTypeInScript + msidbCustomActionTypeNoImpersonate
has been helpful with the rights issues in the other custom actions thus far.

I hear your pain regarding MSI's. I believe we'll see the MSI scheme slowly be abandoned in favor of things like ClickOnce, which sandboxes installations, manages upgrades within the context of the application, etc. MSI is a great tool for systems that share components, etc., but I believe they missed the Simplicity is Beauty day in science/math class.

This time it's just money making process, Since they are now wiping out XP from market, To compel users to switch to Vista for not a single valid reason

I think we should validate the pros and cons and then make a decision !!

If you haven't used Vista, why would you even vote in a survey about Vista?
|
|
|
|
|
My point is that survey should also point out how much awareness is there about vista, for instance 100 people speak about Vista and result is seen by 10000 people, then I won't say it is a good judgment ....

The survey is specifically to get feedback from those who have used Vista.

Highest-rated: Aero (3.36). Wow. (groan... couldn't resist) Actually that's not a surprise, since it's the most readily-visible new thing in Vista.
Lowest-rated: Changes to management/administration (2.77). Not surprising either, all my "management" is done either through Control Panel or Computer Management, neither of which is all that slick. (CM is pretty much the same as XP, in fact)
Middle of the pack: Improvements to Explorer (3.06). I expected this to be lower. Maybe it's just a bad taste left over from the state of Explorer in beta 2. Improved security and safety (2.93). Do people hate UAC that much?
I coulda been a contenda: Sidebar (2.89). How many company-specific RSS readers do we need, anyway?
I have no opinion so I'll vote 3: Search (3.16), Mobile improvements (2.82), TxF (3.22)

The improvements to Explorer and the Shell
You have "improvements" and "Explorer" in the same sentence.

What is typo mistake here? My English is not very good, but I don't see any typo. (Is it ironic?)

There needs to be an "I don't use Vista" option.

I'm not a fan of Microsoft, but my opinion is that Windows Vista is the best windows ever !!!
This time the MS programmers have done their job, so if you need a good looking, secure and user friendly OS - try Windows Vista, you won't regret it.

"The best Windows of all times" as ever since I remember (3.0, 3.1, 3.11, NT 4.0, w2k, XP)
