Hello,
Sorry about that, I don't recall getting a warning (I must have missed it), and I don't see an "edit post" function, so I can't cut out the code. In any case, I suppose I could have left out the code paste altogether, as the problem can just be described:
I'm trying to make some minor changes to the validation code of a checkout page in an ASP.NET webapp. The original builder of the site stripped out the VB codebehind files, leaving just the .aspx files, .dll, and so on in the FTP site.
I have recently recieved from the site-builder all of the original source code, so now I don't have to try to decompile it in Reflector. I have dumped the original checkout_main.aspx.vb source file into the FTP site, and it shows up nested behind its respective .aspx page.
I have made the minor changes (just commenting out some validation code so it doesn't function), but the webpage doesn't seem to recognize the changes. "Building" the codebehind page fails, and several errors show up in VS2005: almost every "name" on the codebehind page is "not declared". Does this mean that the source page is referencing some other VB page that is missing, and therefore cannot compile into a new dll? Should I replace each and every sourcecode file into the FTP site before it can recompile with changes?
That is, the webpage isn't returning an error, it is simply ignoring the changes I make to the codebehind, and the changed codebehind page claims the errors above that prevent recompiling.
Thank you very much

Hi there,
The information about roles, userIDs, Passwords, and profiles is stored in a SQL Database called ASPNETDB.mdf . You can find this DB by clicking on the App_Data folder in your solution explorer. Now where does this DB come from automatically? It's not magic. Whenever you set the authentication mode in the Configuration utility, An ASPNETDB is created and all the information about roles and userIDs etc, is stored in this Database. And whenever you say that this role should do this, it is from this DB the data is fetched.
Hope it helps.
You don't have to be AFRAID!

The following code produces the following error and I cant for the life of me work out why because it's so simple. I have also tried the vb.net convert method but returns the same error. Drop down list should hand over a simple 3 digit number.
Dim LenderUsed As Int32 = CType(LenderDropDown.SelectedValue, Integer)
Input string was not in a correct format.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format.
Any ideas?

Ok ignore this post i have worked it out. The drop down value had one rogue item with "" in it hence why it didn't want to convert to an integer

Hi All,
I got some code in C# where they have done some coding in Global.asax.cs file and use this in aspx.cs file
as
protected override void Render(HtmlTextWriter writer)
{
Job newJob = new Job( "A job queued at: " + DateTime.Now, DateTime.Now.AddMinutes(4) );
lock( Global._JobQueue )
{
Global._JobQueue.Add( newJob );
}
writer.WriteLine("Job Queued");
}
but I am using ASP.NET(VB) and since Global is the keyword in VB I am not able to write this code.
Please help...
thanks in advance...

You either need to rename your Global varible or fully qualify it with a namespace to avoid issues in vb.net.
Hope that helps.

(via Instant VB):
Protected Overrides Sub Render(ByVal writer As HtmlTextWriter)
Dim newJob As Job = New Job("A job queued at: " & DateTime.Now, DateTime.Now.AddMinutes(4))
SyncLock [Global]._JobQueue
[Global]._JobQueue.Add(newJob)
End SyncLock
writer.WriteLine("Job Queued")
End Sub

I need to store a value on a page (and hide it from the user) and maintain it even when the page is posted back.
I know I can do this by using a label (and setting it to visible = false).
But is the best way of doing it ?
Thanks.
|
|
|
|
|
|
Sorry - my question was more about whether a label is the correct control/method of persisting the value.
|
|
|

How will u maintain the different values??If u want only one value then u can use label...

there is a State Management by viewstate .
it's keep the value in the object so when ever we want to get value from viewstate we have to do boxing.
a example for that
suppose you want to save a textbox value
//this is use to save the date
ViewState["name"]=textbox.text;
//this is use to retrive the date;
textbox.text=ViewState["name"].ToString();
another is session
//this is use to save the date
session["name"]=textbox.text;
//this is use to retrive the date;
textbox.text=session["name"].ToString();
I Think this will be helpfull to you.
bye take care.

Hi,
Use hidden control...
<input type="hidden" value="1" runat=server>
runat=server will make this available to access at the code behind as well

Every job is a self portrait of the person who did it.

|
|
Use ViewState, e.g.
ViewState("something") = something;
This is 'encrypted' and hidden from the user on the page.
