I want some thing like this In a form there is a combobox and depending upon the value choosen the a new form should open(Till here i have done). In the new form there is a text box name candidate id this fild is unique in the database(Primary key). SO i want this feild to automatically generated as soon as the form opens
just for example
If the valur clicked is
Software-> the new form opens for software the id generated should be SW001,next time if clicked the value in the text box should be automatically populated with SW002 and so on,
In my opinion when i am selecting the value software a value should be passed to the next form. and the value should be "SW" but the number generation Like "SW001" have to check in the database what is the last id for software department so next time if clicked its should be "SW002"
Can any one pl help me.

Use the following query
select max("the id") from the table
then add 1one to it you will get the new id.

The candidate id is a primary key right so just use the query i sent u like
for example say your id is candidate_id from the table say candidate so the query will be
select max(candidate_id) from candidate
This will return you the highest number that the candidate_id field has.
So to get the new id just add one to it and add it to the text box hence you get the new primary key value which is unique and also will be the highest.

Hi all,
i have a ASp.net Sulution, it include two project like Data Access ( Class library type Project) and Prasentation layer.
And now is set the Multiproject to Prasentation layer as a start up project.
and every where is "Debug" is on.
rather than i got a Error Messages when i press a key F5 for Programm RUN.
To debug this module, chnage its project build configuration to debug mod . To suppress this message, disable the 'warn if no user code on launch' debugger option.

Did you make change in the web.config

And Are you sure that Presentation project is your start up project ?
Because Class library can't run by pressing F5 ........
Do one thing you can also Debug by attaching the process externally did you rey that ?

i had done all task Set start up project (Presentation project) and Web.config and Sulution property is also set Debug.
but i have not try "Debug by attaching the process externally" can you guide me how to do this process.

Why not
First give all break points
Go to Debug in IDE Menu (top of IDE)-> Click to Attach to process
One window will come Select aspnet_wp.exe from Available process then click the Attach button
Now open the IE and type the Address of your application
And enjoy debuging

I have a serious problem...
I have to develop an ASP.net application and I want to deploy it on Apache server..
In the prove of concep stage I could run it successfully on Apache 2.0.59 using the mod_aspdotnet.
But It is required for that application to run on Oracle Web server which is special version of Apache....
I failed to install the mod_aspdotnet on the Oracle Apache version...
Does anyone have any hint???

hi everybody.
Can u tell me how too access post data of form using request object ?
typical problem :
XMLHTTP.open("POST", url,true);
XMLHTTP.send("refresh=ok");
As u can see above i send data via POST method using a xmlHttpRequest object.
Now how to get that data in the serverside code using Request object.

I am running .NET 1.1 on Windows 2003 server with IIS Version 6.0
My application uses a separate multithreaded dll for sending and receiving network messages. That dll is also responsible for file logging and uses a logger with a static constructor. The application works fine but randomly it stops everything including the logging and gives the System.UnAuthorizedException: Access to the logger file is denied.
According to my findings it has got something to do with IIS 6.0 Application Protection settings or the logger class' static constructor or in the whole threading mechanism itself.
Note that the application runs smoothly for hours before raising this exception and then goes lull.
Something more specific is highly appreciated.

Solution:
Use Substitution control for rendering that part which need no caching.
Explanation:
ASP.NET 2.0 introduces a new feature called Post-Cache Substitution, which is aimed at optimizing the development experience for this mostly-cached page scenario. Rather than requiring page developers to mark page regions (user controls) as cached, post-cache substitution allows them to output cache an entire page and then simply identify regions of the page that should be exempt from caching. It also allows control developers to prevent their rendering from from being cached. In the above example, an AdRotator control that takes advantage of post-cache substitution would be able to serve a different advertisement on each request even if its parent page were cached.

Hi..
How to create a contextMenu control in ASP.NET 2.0 using vb? As windows applications have a context menu control, is it possible to get a similar functionality in Web based applications also?
In a <td> of a table, i have Mark and onclik of this, i want to generate a context menu having 2 items below it namely Mark as read and Mark as Unread
