The two ways to draw are to call CreateGraphics to get a graphics object to draw something temporary, or handle the Paint event to draw something that will stay on the screen permanently. The definition of temporary is that it will disappear when you call Invalidate(), or when something causes your window to redraw itself (like it gets covered and then shown again )

If you couldn't figure out your scenario yourself from a list of choices, how else do you expect anyone else to do it from you?
Add to this, a woefully inadequate question  , which does not tell us how you're updating using the adapter. Do you use the Select command or a separate update command. Is it inline SQL or a SP? Do your modifications break any referential integrity? Do you see any inner exception?
Please look at it from a third person's perspective. Atleast give us enough information to understand and respond to your question.

hi kalika,
Perhaps you dont add DatetimePicker Column to Datagrid.however you can take a DateTimePicker control & whenever column(related to date) got focus,then u can set DateTimePicker control location to this cell and on lost focus event pick the value of DateTimePicker & assign it to cell.

Basically, you'd be creating your own Column class for the DataGridView. This is NOT for the faint of heart and it would take an entire article to explain it all. But, you need to create 3 classes.
The first, is the Column class for the DataGridView, which will inherit from DataGridViewColumn.
Public Class MyDatePickerColumn
Inherits DataGridViewColumn
The second is a class that will show the cell contents in the datagridview. You really don't want to show an entire calendar month graphic in there, it simply takes up too much screen realestate to show a date. So, you create a class that your column will use to show the data in a presentable form. This class will use the DataGridViewTextBoxCell as a base to build on.
Public Class MyDateCell
Inherits DataGridViewTextBoxCell
The final class is the hard one, the edit control. This one has to handle putting up the datetime picker control and letting the user pick a date. Since this class is expected to supply certain methods that your column control will call, it has to implement a specific interface, call IDataGridViewEditingControl. Since your just going to show a datetime picker control, it's be a good place to start with the class.
Public Class MyDateColumnEditControl
Inherits DateTimePicker
Implements IDataGridViewEditingControl

My good advice is that "JUST READ THE BOOK FIRST" lot of books are avaliable on NET, get them and read,
and then if there is diffculties then "THE CODE PROJECT" welcomes you always ....!

gday,
i realise its VB 101 again, but was hoping someone could direct me to where I could find out how to use the datepicker . The circumstance is that on my form I have two date pickers and I want to be able to calculate how many nights between the two dates chosen

The date picker is not the issue. Each date picker will return a DateTime. Subtracting one date time from another results in a TimeSpan, which will give you the value you need.

Im not sure exactly what the problem is, but when i fill my dataset using a background worker, the data never shows in my grid...this is not an issue when not using a background worker...any sugestions?
below is the only code in the background worker:
DsCustomersGrid1.Clear()<br />
DsCustomersGrid1.Merge((New DSCustomersGridTableAdapters.SelectAllCustomersForGridTableAdapter).GetData(ZipsCommon.SetupInfo.StoreID, True))

This is because you can't update a control (even it's data) from a seperate thread. You have to Invoke a method on the UI thread to update the control for you.
Create a method on your form that takes the data as a parameter and adds the data to the control. Invoke this method from your background thread and it'll marshal the call to the UI thread to do the work.

Doesn't this defeat the purpose of a background worker? Invoke would cause the method to run back on the main thread, which would bog down the thread since they have over 50,000 customers that are being loaded into the dataset...Is there a way to do this on a separate thread? I guess I could run it on the background worker and then send each individual row to the main thread one at a time with invoke, that would keep it from bogging down, but it would take so long to load that they would end up having to wait for the grid to load before they could really do anything anyways...any suggestions?

You can load the dataset entirely in the background thread, then Invoke the binding through the UI thread. Personally, I find havin 50,000 records in a DataSet a waste of time if all you're going to do is show a small block of records out of that set or doing some processing on only a small block of that data.
A paging solution would be in order for this...
