I'm experiencing problems while working with persisted workflows.
As long as I keep the assemblies containing my Activity-types unchanged everything works great.
But as soon as I make changes to my activities/workflows (i.e. deleting single child-activities from a sequence) and start my host application, those workflow instances using the changed activites won't reload and continue running.
The problem is of course, that because the types have changed, SqlWorkflowPersistenceService is not able to deserialize the data stored in our database.
What I want to do is keeping backups of my assemblies, so that even if there is a more current version of the assembly, the old workflow instances will use the backup version and thus be able to deserialize without any trouble and continue running.
I tried writing my own assembly management routines (by subscribing to AppDomain.ResolveAssembly) which would provide the backup versions. The problem is, that SqlWorkflowPersistenceService does not seem to save the whole AssemblyQualifiedName of the serialzed types, so the Service would always try and deserialze to the types held in the most current assembly.
Now my question:
Is there a way to change SqlWorkflowPersistenceService's default behaviour of only saving the type name to saving the AssemblyQualifiedName which would solve all my problems in an instant?
If there's no such way, how would I implement my own WorkflowPersistenceService? As far as I've seen, all the custom implementations out there resolve to using Activity.Load and Activity.Save, which seem to show the same behaviour (of only saving the type name without assembly qualification).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Got the problem solved by accident ;D
Providing the correct Assembly by use of AppDomain.AssemblyResolve works perfectly well, AS LONG AS the Assemblies are SIGNED. Otherwise the AppDomain.AssemblyResolve event won't even be called.
So there's no need to change anything on SqlWorkflowPersistenceService's behaviour.

I want to convert a string to byte array as follows
byte[] b = Convert.FromBase64String(s);
it is giving the following error:
Invalid length for a Base-64 char array.
can any one give me a suggestion to solve this.

Your string is not a valid base64 string. Its length should be a multiple of four and '=' characters at the end for padding (if needed).

I believe their are some utilities in the Text.Encoding class.

The StrongTypingException comes from you throwing it if an InvalidCastException occurs. Seemingly it does, so this means Me(Me.tableSTS_STOCKS_INFO.HIGHEST_PRICEColumn) could not be casted as a decimal.

i have made two setup. one is window application(desktop Application) and second is website(local website) setup.my problem is that i want to make only one setup that installed these two setup.Please guede me.

There can be two solutions for these:
1. Write a batch file, and call these two setups one by one
2. Create a new installer project, and add the execuatbels and dlls manually specify their desired output location.
Infact you only need to ask for win app location. For Wep App you can just get the name of app in a textbox(if you want)

We are trying to create an aggragate function that needs to accept 3 parameters. one parameter is a variable, and two are constant once initialized.
does anyone know how to do this?

Do you mean one parameter is optional? All parameters are variable, else it is pointless having parameters.
In VB.NET you can use the Optional modifier on the third parameter, but in C# you have to have two, overloaded methods, one that accepts three parameters, and only two parameters and calls the three parameter version with a null parameter or some other indication to ignore the third parameter.

Well to know that you have to know the Font object the string is formatted with. Even then I'm not convinced it will give back exact results under all circumstances (also note you can change font size in the browser without the server-side knowing of it). With these limitations stated a good approximation would be:

In a web based app? There's no way to figure this out. Your ASP.NET app doesn't have access to any resolution information abtou the clients machine, DPI settings, the font the browser is actually going to use to render your content, ... You can't get any of the information you need to figure this out.
The only way to simulate this is if you wrote the string to a bitmap image, then sent the image to the browser.

If web based applications have access to the Graphics object through any paint routines, then you can use the measurestring method.

I'm hoping someone has some advice or can point me in the right direction on this as it's been doing my head in for a week.
I've got a Visual Studio 2005 solution, and I've added an installer project to it. My problem lies in the fact that the projects that are to be installed use two versions of the Enterprise Library. Some projects contain legacy code that uses V1.1 of the Enterprise Library and some, that have newer code, uses V2.0 of the Enterprise Library. When I add the main project (the one that references everything else) it attempts to add all the dependencies including to the Enterprise Libraries.
This causes confusion - VS throws up lots of warnings about duplicate assembly names and it installs the files randomly - Sometimes a V1.1 DLL sometimes a V2.0 DLL.
We've compiled the Enterprise Library such that it can be installed in the GAC. But adding the Enterprise Library FIRST to the installer project and into the "Global Assembly Cache Folder" doesn't appear to help. When I add the projects to be installed it still insists on installing (randomly) the Enterprise Library in the installation folder - while complaining bitterly about it too!
Finally, I've tried adding the assemblies individually (instead of selecting Project Output) but it still picks up the dependencies and insists on adding them to the installer.
Does anyone have any ideas of how I can overcome this problem and actually build an installer that works?
