Can I display existing access forms from a legacy app in a new C# one instead of having to rewrite the entire system at once?

Given that practically anything is possible, I wouldn't rule it out... however, I can't think of an easy way to do this, which would invariably lead to you writing lots of code to make it happen - probably more code than it would take you just to port the app in its entirety.

Well Access does support a fairly rich ActiveX model, so it should be possible to interop in to remote control the old application. The problem is that Access forms don't exist outside of an Access context, so it would be necessary to have Access visible in order to have the forms displayed - to have the forms displayed without the Access application window, if it's possible at all, would probably involve a lot of code, which in terms of the OP's original idea that this would save effort in the short term, doesn't really stack up.

Someone (somewhere) may have written a tool to convert Access forms to Winforms, but a cursory Google didn't bring much up.

I wasn't optimistic about getting a go ahead to port parts over, if I can't salvage most of the legacy forms cheaply and easily it's essentially a nonstarter at least for the immediate future.

The best way to get help on this is to show a live example of what I want.

Do this:
1) Download, extract and open the visual studio solution
2) Goto Form1.cs and select myUserControl1 (already added to the form)
3) Click the little arrow and the click "Insert new button"
4) Debug the solution.

Form1 will launch and you will see myUserControl1, however, the added button is missing.

The whole idea is to be able to add those buttons (the real thing I want to do is not just that but if I can get this to work, I'll get the other stuff too) in design-time and have them displayed on the form when debugging/running the application.

Hello, I've searched but haven't found any topic to my problem.
I am now able to download mail with POP3, send mail with SMTP by C#.net
But I don't know how to forward a message in my mail box to another address. I thought of download email and resend it, but an email with large attachments would take alot of time to do that.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks alot for reading.

Pop3 will download the message to the client. You want to use IMAP (if that's available to you). IMAP can be manipulated on the server side so you don't have to download the large attachments first.

Search on IMAP to get a good understanding on how it's different than the pop3 protocol.

Can I specify a default value for a group in my regular expression so that if the group does not match I shall use that default value.

I can do by checking the returned groups in my own code But I want to know if this could be done using the Regex.match or somefin like that

It seems not, and rightly so, the RegEx shouldn't return any characters that weren't in the original string. But, yeah, it would be handy in certain cases.

Hi all,

New to the code project and to C#, but excited to get started....

I have a relatively good programming background in C and C++ and I have been assigned the task of building a windows based GUI. After some research on the web I have decided to use C#.....does anyone have a good place for some reference as where to begin making the transition?

Web links would be harder as I haven't come across many that are general in nature (most are focused on a particular technology or aspect of a technology). I'll try to put a list together of some of the ones I read regularly.
