I have looked at that and it works great on a per file bases.
I am looking at doing about 700 small files at any given time and combining them into one large one to do queries and reporting.
Do you know of a mass convert utility? or have any coding help you can extend?

suppose sql server is installed in a network server(or a network attached computer running XP)
and another computer wish to connect to that server through a vb application, what is the connection string
that we need to provide.
Or does it have a different approach????

Hi,
the SetSystemTime() prototype states:
BOOL SetSystemTime(const SYSTEMTIME *lpSystemTime);
which means it needs a pointer to a SYSTEMTIME structure, hence passing "ByVal"
is wrong.

I tried now with ByRef, same result 
SetSystemTime() is really called, but time changes to 31-12-2007 00:00 which means that it's not passing parameters to the function?

Where did you get your SYSTEMTIME Structure? It is completely wrong.
Check the documentation, stop your trial-and-error methods.

You should be passing the structure in ByRef AND you've defined all the fields in the structure as Integers (32-bit signed). They should be Shorts or Int16, 16-bit signed numbers:

you probably need to call function GetDiskFreeSpaceEx() in kernel32.dll

but the real problem is it returns the free space in Numbers of Bytes if there is HDD capacity more than 200GB then VB 6.0 fails to accept the range and throws the exception as "Sunscript outof range OVERFLOW"
what should i do ?
i have tried with "Long" and "Double" Type

You normally define a hotkey to launch your application in the shortcut to the application, not in the application itself.

Hello everyone!
I am interested in building a gantt chart component in vb .net. I've been around and saw alot of third-party components that are really good but the problem is I dont want to buy them but instead I would want to build one myself. It wouldn't have to be as great, just a basic one will do.
Given that there is many third party components out there, im conviced that it can be done! So in order to go ahead and build one, I assume i'll have to build a custom control, acquire knowledge in GDI+ and inherit and manipulate the datagrid component?
In my opinion, the Gantt Chart component should have the elements of rows and columns; rows so that bars can be in placed accordingly, the bars will be representing the duration for each task and the columns to represent a timeframe. The bars may consist of lines that will connect these bars with one and another to represent dependencies. Thus suggesting a line to be drawn thru GDI+ i suppose?
So with the basics of what im trying to create here, im pretty much clueless on how I'm going to go ahead and build one as I never build a custom control before.
I really want some suggestions on this...is there another way of building a Gantt Chart? Or am I heading off the wrong direction? Or have I got it all just plain wrong. =(

So far, so good. Though, I'd forget the DataGrid stuff and just draw the entire control using GDI.

You've picked a very LARGE one to start with. I'd recommend not doing this until you've gone through some smaller controls to get the basics of how controls work, drawing, managing your controls state, managing data, databinding support, and the relationship between your data model and drawing it.
Your control is going to have to track a bunch of data and do a ton of math to figure out how it's going to draw itself, positioning text, bars, grid lines (if any), ... Start small and work your way up.

You're going to have to try adding the COM components to the toolbox in VB6 and try it yourself. Usually, once people go to VB.NET, they don't go back to VB6 (unless absolutely forced to.)

in my project, i use toolbar toolbar in my buttons...i used case structure for the functions of each buttons in the toolbar but theres an error in it...
my codes goes like this:

This should be Select Case myVariable where myVariable is the variable you are referencing to.
The second one seems fine, there must be an issue in the way the keyIn is changed, it must not be being changed when the other buttons are pressed.
