Learn C first, and become a master with pointers.
Then when you learn a language like Java -- you will feel superior to the community of wannabes that couldn't hack it, and bailed for the easy road.
If you use UNIX or Linux, first learn vi and become a master. You will forever hate programming with a mouse and wonder why it was ever used for programming.
Kind regards,
David

Why not go the whole hog and advocate assembly language. Hell, don't be such a wimp learn how to program in Binary.

insecure?
Something I said offend you?
I was going to add assembly language, but thought that with the material I put out there, he might have a while before he could get to it.
IMHO pointers were difficult for some to comprehend, so Sun created a language so they didn't have to deal with it.
Maybe this person isn't one of them, and is able to learn what goes on "under the hood" in order to be a better software engineer.
Maybe that's why some are called programmers and software developers and others are called software engineers

Nope. I was just adding a little extra in the light-hearted stakes. Don't knock it - I started off learning machine programming in binary. You spent three hours punching in a simple program and only discovered that the listing you'd been coding from was smudged and you should have entered a 1 instead of a 0 half an hour before. Yet here I am, nearly 30 years later still doing what I love.

I really need to create a coding consortium. I can get way more work than I can do but I need some ASP .Net C# developers with HTML/Javascript experience to boot.
I must have United States ONLY developers as some of the businesses I work with have rules that dictate federal laws requiring U.S. labor only. If you are interested I really need to erect something so contact me and let me know. This isn't going to be a mountain of work immediately. I need to feel good about the respondents, their skills and their availability. I can host all the development and production servers including SVN or other source sharing tools. I can host all the technology I just need bright minds to participate. If you think you are going to make more than $40 an hour please don't respond. None of my customers pay more than that and if that's too low for just move along as their is nothing to see here.
You must have the development skills as well as the ability to work directly with the customer to establish requirements, deliverables and manage the entire project life-cycle. I will procure the work but you are going to do *ALL* of it. I will assist as needed but by and large this is sub-contracting work done behind my corporate front. You will get a code-frog.com email address and you will operate under that premise that you work for me. All the source code you work on is considered my code by default and I retain all rights to it. That's the default rule. In reality all of it except that which pertains to confidential client specific code is yours to do with as you please I just have to protect the concepts and ideas of clients by invoking my domain onto your code. This can all be discussed per project and I think you'll be quite happy to see that 98% of your code is yours and in most cases 100% though I will need full copies of all source just in case you get killed by Beowulf or something.
Along those lines you have to be willing to support your code 24x7. I will be the first line of response but I may need your help. If you have other questions fire away.

i have been working on the DotNet Platform (Web Services) for the past one year.I want to obtain an MCP now. But i am confused whether to choose an MCP with Web Services (exam 70-529) on which i have already worked or go for MCP with Web Applications (exam 70-528) on which i havent worked yet. I was inclined to chose the later so that i could diversify my profile.. but i dont know much about the market demand for either? some advice would really help.

Bonsoir,

It is a bit of work, but you might be able to set the printer to an file writer and print the sections in different files. Such that you have afterwards 10 Files out of one.
Then you can print one of another.
But I think there would be better solutions, especially when you have to do this more than once.
Cheers

I was looking for just that - is the jobs board in some obvious place that I missed?

Well, fancy that!
Thanks.
I don't know if I ever looked at the stuff on the left - I had assumed that it duplicated the options in the menus at the top.

But do you have to actually be French as your title implies? I'm sure there are EU rules prohibiting discrimination on nationality for EU Citizens. Free flow of professionals within the union and all that.

Or except when conditions are applied that restrict the free movement of workers to UE like the ones for Romania. With the job I've taken in Netherlands, the company actually had to prove that they were unable to find suitable candidates for the job in the EU countries that joined prior to May 2004, before they were allowed to hire me.
There is transitional period of up to 7 years in which conditions apply for EU member states that joined after 1 May 2004 that restrict the free movement of workers. Last modified: 15mins after originally posted --

Learn a language. Get a book for beginners and work through it. If you are wanting to learn C# then I recommend Microosft Visual C# 2005 Step-by-Step.
You are also going to need to ensure you have good analytical skills. (Problem solving ability)
Unless you have opportunities in your current job to move to application development you are going to have to be able to demonstrate your skills somehow. Joining an open source project seems to be a popular option. Alternatively start your own project - but you will need good design skills for that to work out.
Alternatively, write articles that demonstrate your ability. Start a blog and write about software development. If nothing else you'll get people writing critiques to help you improve. Be graceous with any advice you receive.
