Hi professionals,
First, I am sorry to repost my question but this time it has more accurate information to help getting the good answer.
I am planning to launch a website like youtube, but it is meant for different purpose, it will have very similar functionality to youtube, more precisely it will have:
1. Simple interface design, but professional design (I mean no graphical complications, yet great reachbility of video content).
2. Makes intensive use of AJAX to update the user-interface.
3. Needs to be able to handle thousands of users surfing the site at the same time.
4. Needs to manipulate large amounts of data in different databases efficiently.
5. Needs to embed media controls like flash video, real player, windows media player in web-pages.
6. Functionality includes user profiles, e-mailing, video rating, video commenting and everything youtube has.
I don't know what technology I should use in building this project, is it ASP .NET or PHP? I know little about ASP .NET and I know nothing about PHP.
For now let us make the following assumptions:
1. Regarding video content management, let us assume that the problem of load-balancing and all problems regarding video managemnt (upload, download, etc) are already solved by a professional company.
2. Let us assume that my goal is to implement user profiles, rating, commenting, signing up, etc. also I want to make my site able to handle thousands of users simaltanously sending msgs to each other, logging in and out, rating, commenting, etc.
I need to use a tool that is very productive, relatively easier and reliable to build a world-class project, I need it to be able to handle millions of database records and thousands of users surfing the website simaltanously.
I know that this is a ASP.NET forum so it is likely to see more people recommending ASP .NET, but I need you to be fair, so I need justifications ,please.

What about Java? now, you are trying to create the website like YouTube. good. If you wanna create the Search engine like Google one day, Java might be useful..

It's depend on your expertise. (There are a lot of "world-class" projects which are written in PHP, ASP.NET and Java.)
but one thing for sure is that little knowledge about ASP.NET and nothing about PHP can't help you to build the "world-class" projects .. no matter which tool you are using.. So, The best advice would be "learn more about ASP.NET or PHP or Java".

Thats exactly what I want to do -
1st let experts help me find the better langauge for this application - find the right thing to learn
second learn the better technology or give the project to an expert.
what I need to know is what is more useful in this specific application, PHP or ASP.NET or any other?
I don't want to learn one language and then find that another language can assist me better building this website, sure, I don't want to build a "world-class" project with little knowledge, thats impossible

I can only reiterate that if you know little about ASP.NET and nothing about PHP, the answer is that you may as well use Logo, no way are you going to be able to do this.
If this is a business idea, consider hiring someone to impliment it. If it's a rentacoder job gone bad, cut and run. That's really where it's at. As I said before, PHP and ASP.NET are both equally capable of doing this. Your player will end up being some sort of embedded app, so probably Java, and the rest is just a bit of HTML which is not going to be hard. But, it still sounds like you're biting off far more than you can chew, to be repeatedly asking this question.

I am just searching for the right thing to learn, ofcourse, either I will hire somebody or I will spend a few months studying the better language.
I am a very good C,C++,VC++,C# programmer and I have very good experience (7-years) in programming but my problem is that I didn't dig much into web development
I don't think it will be very hard to learn ASP .NET or PHP, also I will be sharing the project with two other developers who will also help me implementing the project.
The problem is that we want to find out what tool is better in this specific application, thats all, after experts help us choosing the correct langauge we will spend some time learning it, then we will begin the implementation.
Up to now, no one gave me a final answer, so I assume that they are equally capable of doing this project in terms of productivity, effeciency, support for AJAX, etc. am I right?

The thing that supports AJAX is your browser. Again, you're hoping to learn several platforms in a short space of time and then turn out a world class app in them. AJAX is just javascript in the browser, so it's the browser that supports it. Having said that, ASP.NET has a library of AJAX controls that you may find useful, although I don't think they scale very well.
Every question you ask will raise 20 more, because you don't have a baseline knowledge to work from. Really, that being the case, I think the real think you need to do is accept if you have a chance in hell of achieving this, it's because you will stand on the shoulders of communities who will be willing to support you, answer your questions, and fix your mistakes. You're in a vibrant ASP.NET community asking this, did you find any PHP forums you think would be as busy and as helpful ? ( It's possible, the question is a real one, I am saying, that's really the main thing you need to be looking for )

Since you don't know much about either of the technology or the depth of them, but you have a great vision for a world class high capital application, I would suggest you can have the work outsourced to some one with the required expertise and get it achieved.
Check out eLance or a similar work related website and post the requirement.

1st. I have no problem in hiring expert people to do the project.
2nd. You assume that I am making the site that will throw youtube to trash, what I am doing is totally different and I was vague just because I don't want to bug you with the details of the idea.
3rd. Be sure that the project I am aiming to do is of medium size, of course not in the size of youtube nor it will ever be.
4th. The problem with people here is that the argue how such a begginer will do such a whole giant project and then they forget to answer anything about the question.. this is the real joke.

Sorry should have been more clearer. Its not a syntax error because it works when i run it on the local machine. I only get an error when i try and run it remotely. The error is server error but the details of the error is not shown because it is not configured to. I am assuming it might be something i need to do on the IIS server. I used the asp.net configuration (Visual studio 2005)to add users and passwords to login. In the wizard it asked if the site is going to be run on a local network or over the internet. I have tried both options but i still get the errors. I really hope this makes it clearer.

Does anybody know of a half decent (free?) menu control that has nested levels and works inside an update panel?
I've just spent two days trying to get the ASP.NET Menu control to play nicely in an UpdatePanel and it won't. I've followed the suggested JS hacks to get it to work but failed miserably.
Most of the menus on CP are all .NET 1 and I now don't have the time to convert over so I can test suitability.
All I want is a two level menu - that will work in an update panel so I can partially render whatever they choose from the menu. I want a single server side eventhandler and be able to determine by name, position, value, I don't care, which item was clicked.
The reason I don't go out and buy one is that the project is for a charity and I am doing it in what little spare time I have as a freebie. Ultimately, I will have to resort to the MS one and give them full page reloads when they choose a new menu item.....yeuch 
If anybody wants to donate one they will be credited, and then plagiarised in an article (with possibly a little mention at the bottom, when I finally write my first article).
