When you link to a ftp server with a link like this:
<a href="ftp://a_ftp_server.com/">Link</a>
an user who clicks there in Internet Explorer 7.0 will be sent to a list of text links of the content in that server.
In previous versions of IE, a Windows Explorer window is opened showing the server content with icons and allowing the user to add and remove files.
What i am looking for is a way to force Internet Explorer 7.0 to show a Windows Explorer window when a FTP hyperlink is clicked.
Im running a server so I need some HTTP code: maybe some keyword for 'target' parameter?
Thanks in advance !!

I'm having a small problem with input fields inside pulldown menus derived from cascading style-sheets. I'm using li and ul to generate lists and the style-sheets to hide and show the child ul whenever the :hover pseudo-class is met.
For some odd reason or another, I decided to put input fields into these pulldowns. This gives me a bit of a problem. If the input field is selected, and the mouse is moved off of the li and ul with the :hover pseudo-class, the li and ul will disappear. This makes sense.
I just can't figure out what I can do to make sure the field and parent ul remain visible when the control has focus, regardless of where the cursor is. I've tried the :focus and :active pseudo-class with no love.
This only needs to work on IE7. Any advice would be much appreciated.
If it's not possible, I can always just throw out the hidden field idea. They don't seem to intuitive as ui elements anyway.

Simple Link Test in JavaScript
I am looking to test if a link is live. Simple I'm sure...!
After a number of days I have not found any info that works or even addresses the issue directly.
I dont think it can be done Judging from all of the costly enterprise solutions for this simple task someone could make millions from a couple of lines of code =)
**this is what I want to do**
if my link to http:
else my link to http:
**end this is what I want to do**
If my link is live I display a link live icon. If my link is dead then display the link dead icon.
Ps: I know that this can be done but for the life of me I cannot find an implementation that does not involve a bunch of completely useless fuctionality in the same code.

You could use the XmlHttpRequest[^] API to make a HTTP request for a URL in your client-side code. Checking the response and/or status will tell you whether the resource could be located.

Hi there,
I have one annoying issue - when I export GridView to HTML
I' ve got "Â" character instead of blank spaces.
The same issue was resolved for exporting to CSV file by
replacing " " with "".
But it does not work for HTML.
Also, I've been trying to replace
" " with "a0" and use COALEASE function on SQL side
to replace NULLs with "" - nothing helps.
Please advise,
thanks

Are you using the non-english version of OS or something(eg. VS, SQL or etc)?? it might cause this issue.. I think you should set the current culture to English before exporting the excel.

Hello togetherm
I have a self written AJAX-Combobox and I have a tuning problem inside javascript.
I get many records from server and will fill a client side combobox (select element) with all records like this:
for (var i = 0; i < length; i++) {
oSel.options[i] = new Option (arrT[i], arrV[i], false, false);
}
This takes 30 seconds for 3600 array elements (-> 3600 options will be created).
Have anybody an idea, how I can create the options very very faster?
Thank you very much
Stephan

Just an idea. (not so sure whether it will work with your self-written Ajax-combobox).
What about loading the data on demand? Like Microsoft Live Search result or dzone search result. In your case, it will be in your combobox instead of a page. You have 3600 records in the database, right? firstly, you can load a few records (50 or 100 records) and add them to your combobox. then, when the user scroll down then you can load the more records on demand...

Yes. But (sorry for my stupid answer) I have no time to implement it. Have only time to make the line inside the loop faster.

Okay. All the best!

As Michael suggested, your best bet is to find a way of putting fewer items in the list. Not only will that speed up the routine, but you may actually find that your end-user is able to find items in the list more quickly as well...
Otherwise, try building the HTML for the options in-memory and blasting it all out at once by assigning it to oSel.innerHTML . Might be a little faster, depending on the browser in use.
