Hello.
I have developed a simple communication system as a website where my site users can send messages to each other after logging in. I store the messages in SQL Server. I store the subject, body and other common properties of a message. What I need now is to make my web application POP3- and SMTP-enabled. So that I not only store my messages in my database, i prove my users with email addresses on my website like user1@mydomain.com, so that incoming emails to this address, will be intercepted and I can show each user his messages. Also they can send messages, not only to the internal users of my system, but everybody who owns an email. I think I should let my application talk in POP3 and SMTP language.
On the net, I found some useful articles. One described how to use socket programming to save the message on the server side in a folder. But the problem is that who is gonna send it at the end? IIS? But what if I myself want to send it? What should I do to send a queued message to the recipient's address?
Please if anybody has any experience in this field, help me out.

Hello
I am creating a setup project in VS2005. It is generating a .msi and setup.exe. I want to genearate only one .exe file that contains .msi and setup.exe. The output file should be with .exe extension.
Pls help me.

That cannot be done using the setup projects in Visual Studio. You'll have to use a third party installer product, like Wise For Windows Installer or InstallShield, or some other to do this.
In either case, the installer .EXE will have to be something like a self extracting ZIP file, unpacking the .MSI file to a temp folder and running it from there. Windows Installer will only work with .MSI files, not .EXE's.

I am new in the field of shell programming, so my question may be strange.
Is it possible to create a windows toolbar in .NET (C#)?
I read this article http://www.codeproject.com/KB/shell/dotnetbandobjects.aspx[^] and I still don't understand
how they work. Maybe someone can give me some simple explanation about it,
and if it is possible to create a toolbar in C# in a simple way?

That article IS the simple explanation. A forum post just isn't going to cover everything you need to do to create a DeskBand. The code sample in that article IS the simple way to do it in C#.
I would suggest you start reading everything you can on DeskBands. Just Google for "C# DeskBand" and you'll find a ton of stuff.

Hi all,
I'm developing an application in which I bind to XmlDataProvider.Source property. If the xml file I'm binding to has an extension of .xml everything is fine. If it has some other extension the binding fails.
I posted on forums.microsoft.com and was given instruction to go to the Connect website and log this as a bug. Maybe I'm stupid, but I cannot figure out how to do that.

It's not a seperate executable. Keep "Visual Studio Extension Project" in mind while you look up "IDesigner" in the MSDN documentation.

Hello every one
I am developing a application in VB 2005
I am using On Error Goto to handle errors.
Now my issue is that I want to handle different type of errors in a function separately.
That is like
Do some thing if the database connection is not there
Do some thing else if the data is not found
And so on
I am not able to identify the errors in that way.. I am able to displaying the error number and description provided by the error object.
Is there any way to find out or a list of error numbers available?

Why are you using On Error Goto with VB.NET? This is a throwback to the bad old days of classic VB and should be avoided like the plague. Structured error handling was introduced in VB.NET with try...catch...finally blocks. Have a look at this article[^]. You can set up multiple catch blocks for a try block to catch different types of errors.

You should really go away from On Error... and instead use try/catch blocks as the other poster suggested.

At a guess I would think it's something to do with the change from Managed C++ in 2003 to C++/CLI in 2005. I've not used MC++ or C++/CLI but I do know that there is an explicit difference in syntax between pointers and references in C++/CLI but in MC++ there isn't. Is it possible for you to upgrade the MC++ to C++/CLI and then try again? Though in theory backward compatibility should be preserved. Knowing MS there's probably some compiler switch you have to set.
If you don't get any joy in this forum you might try posting on the MSDN Forums. MS developers tend to pop up on there periodically.

Is the Byte* pointing to an array?
If so, can you change the method to something like
array<Byte> ^some_method();
and have the method create and return an array<Byte>^?

I have a Windows service that has an installer class. I set the StartType to ServiceStartMode.Automatic, but after installation, it doesn't automatically start. What didn't I do?
BTW, the service starts fine if I do it in the SCM.
EDIT: I added the following code, and it works great:

I'm creating a spy and packaging it in a COM library.
It is to be used by vbscripts for testing purposes.
I am able to search through the child windows of a window to find controls that already have a caption (i.e. buttons, checkboxes, radiobuttons.) using FindWindowEx(...).
How would I be able to retrieve the handleID (HWND) of a control based on it's Name?
(i.e. textbox1, ListView1, TreeView1, etc.)
I appreciate the assistance,

I think you can use "control.Handle" Or Textbox.Handle property to get the HWD.
