If we really wanted to do something, would we really have waited for the start of a new year? Not that I'm complaining. I've started many a diet tomorrow morning, only to loose my resolve while digesting hundreds of calories in my sleep. Life is so much easier being fat and lazy!

About 25 years ago I made a resolution to put more things off. It's the only one I've ever kept, and I haven't got around to making any more resolutions.

True. One good thing can be we can have a resolution like "Acting Promptly and diligently towards our requirements without getting bogged down by mundane troubles and ridiculous hurdles. Procrastination is the thief of time and let us put on the hats of a cop to ticket him and throw him behind the bars".

(Finally) give up whatever you've been trying to give up - I'm a teetotaller, non-smoker and vegetarian; and have always been. I don't think I have any 'bad' habits to give up.
Take control of your finances - My family accuses me of being a penny-pincher.
Take control of your life (ask for a raise, start a business, change jobs - whatever!) - Yes, I have Something Big to do in this area.
Look after yourself better - I have no problems apart from a weak back, so I have resolved to get more exercise.
Backup your data - I already do.
Get out more, stay in the office less - I don't stay longer than is necessary.
Take up a new hobby - Nope.
Learn something new - Not now.
Get a love life - As a lot of you hollered the other day ;) I have something to do here.

I suggest you give up being a teetotaller, and pronto! This would allow you to champion several other items:
Take up something new: Drinking
Learn something newe: How to mix drinks every woman will love (vide post).
Take up a new hobby: I collect single-malt scotches - so there's something for everyone
Get a love life: This is a good first step, or if things still don't work out, supplies consolation.
Get Out more . . .: You'll be able to realize that "longer than necessary" may have been too long, afterall.
Look after yourself better: My physician suggested I have two alcoholic drinks/day. Good for the circulatory system, it seems.
And, if you follow up on these opportunites with due diligence and dedication (I love lots of allterate), next year at this time you'll either feel fabulous or have something to give up.

Interesting. I am a single malt scotch lover myself (I don't really collect it). I've tried some not so well known single malts recently - Tomatin and Tamnavulin. Can you recommend some not so famous but decent single malts?

You're talking to a bottom fisher, here.
My primary method(s) of acquisition are either (1) at a decent duty-free shop prior to returning home from a sensuous vaction, or (2) Red-Tag sales at my most frequently patronized liquor store.
The latter is more relevant to the bottom fishing - if they want the shelf space back, they'll cut the prices to amazingly low levels - I bought several as (apparently) fine gifts when one they were red-tagged to US$11 for 750ml.
I don't know what's obscure, and would be afraid to recommend an item. Why? Once upon a tim, on soc.alt.freemasonry, I mentioned my like for Laphroig "the richest scotch in the world". There was an immediate flurry of unpleasantcomments appertaining to the brew - analogies to discareded garments being amongst the more supportive. This rapidly followed by a similar flurry in its defense. I like the rather wide variety of tastes which are lost in blends. The Glen Moray my son bought me as a holiday gift didn't have nearly so pleasant an aroma as most others, but it was particularly smooth. My present collection is ca. 12 bottles, but a few are duplicates (always make sure you have backups).
I've had (again, a red-tag item) Sheep Dip. Some other with the most wonderful fruity aroma, which filled the room upon opening. Foolishly, I forgot to write down the name and not only is it gone, but as a red-tagger, it's no longer stocked.
I'm not much help, but I'll at least give you a smile:
The first time I brought a bottle of single-malt home, my wife used it to make a Whisky Sour.

But that incident has not been repeated for a decade or more.
I can't bring myself to by the really top-shelf stuff - but accept fine gifts with humility and grace(my Birthday just passed, so you needen't feel guilty sending me a fine gift).*

Woah. I never heard anyone refer to non-vegetarianism as a 'bad' habit
Also, I like to insist that unless you are a borderline alcoholic, a few drinks once or twice a week with friends is actually a good thing.
But yeah, smoking *is* a bad habit.

Me too. At least the only bad habit I used to have was getting angry immediately (short-tempered). Following from 2007 New Year at least till now, I have been allowing this to subside off. If at all, some one attempts and does meditation to provoke my anger, I can just show my gestures of magnanimity to direct them to the gutter in my street and offering them a dime to clean it off.

When I was at Cybernetsoft about a few years back, my technical lead used to advise us a lot on 'Smart Working'. Just because, a person slogs late at work does not mean he is working. There might be umpteen personal desires of him that is being attempted to be quenched. I hate such people who waste corporate resources for thier personal pleasures.

Well, it wasn't multiple choice at the beginning of last week. It was single choice. Nice that they changed it, but would have been nicer still to be TOLD that they changed it so I could change my one vote to multiple. as it is, this isn't an accurate representation because not everyone can check the poll everyday to see if they changed it to multiple choice or not.
I think this poll should be retaken next week so we can ALL get our MULTIPLE choices in.
