HI all

In my asp.net page I'm attempting to use the OpenfileDialog object to
offer a common dialog box for the user to select a particular file on their
hard drive that may subsequently be uploaded
to our website.
The reason I'm doing it this way is that I've read that by using the common
dialog box, the security issues are based on the logged in user.

Of course, I added a reference to System.Windows.Forms and added a using
clause.

Here's the problem, when I use the following code

OpenFileDialog ofd = new OpenFileDialog();
ofd.Title = "Choose File";
ofd.InitialDirectory = [at] "c:\" ;
ofd.Filter = "All files (*.*)|*.*|All files (*.*)|*.*" ;
ofd.FilterIndex = 1 ;
ofd.RestoreDirectory = true ;
ofd.ShowDialog();

ShowDialog() throws the following exception:

[InvalidOperationException: It is invalid to show a modal dialog or form
when the application is not running in
UserInteractive mode. Specify the ServiceNotification or DefaultDesktopOnly

You can't invoke windows forms code like that from an asp.net page - this code will attempt to run on the server. You need to use the file upload html control.

If you are using Silverlight, you can probably use "Safe File Open Dialog".

Is there a FTP command that gets the size of a folder, or another way of getting the full folder size on a different machine?

Is there a FTP command that retrives the size of a folder?

I'm trying to get the full size of a folder on a server,
and the only way I can think of is using a FTP-client.

hi,

if the user enters space in the textbox and submits it by clicking error. How can i validate it .
only space should not be allowed. Please anyone help me out in this. \

You can trim the whitespace and check for the value. If it is blank, alert message. Javascript don't have an inbuilt trim method. Check this[^]

You can use the ASP.NET validator controls, here is an example using the RequiredFieldValidator.
It will not accept a space as valid input.

I am developing an application, which needs a pop up window to be opened, when a button is clicked, i have tried out Response.redirect, but then it navigates from one page to another, i want both the windows to be opened,

You can use ClientScriptManager.RegisterStartUpScript("name","your popup JS") to open a popup window. Or use simple Response.Write()

Pls can you be more clear with the post, i have never used the function said above, can you explain the parameters for the function..
and another important issue is that, i am creating the button dynamically and for that button click, i should be able to open a popup window

It is used to register client side scripts to the page. The script you specified inside that will be added to the page. See the following sample.

ClientScriptManager.RegisterStartUpScript("SampleAlert","<script language='javascript'>alert('hi') </script>");

Hello Friends,

I want to copy the contents(subdirectories and files) from source folder into destination folder.

Here is my code ...........

DirectoryInfo dir=new DirectoryInfo(MapPath(".")+"\\"+"Images");
dir.MoveTo(MapPath(".")+"\\"+"Hello");

and also I've set <identity impersonate="true" /> in web.config

The error i'm getting is given below...

Access to the path "c:\inetpub\wwwroot\Rough\Images" is denied.

Do impersonation before the move. Undo it after the move. Search google for doing this, you will find many links.

Dear Friend..

I need to create a virtual directory for my application.If i do it,its asking for the alias name.After giving the alias name,its saying that the name already exists.But that alias name doesn't exist in my IIS before.What could be the problem..? I am getting the following message when i try to give the alias name.

"The alias LM/W3SVC/1/Root/iCashCard already exists.Please choose a different alias."

Why does this occur.? Someone help in this regard as early as possible..

How to retain Data of Main page controls.

Hi,
I have a Main.aspx. I put a Grid control on it. Main page having links of other page. I am sending some value from other page to Main page and adding into Grid. Again I am navigating to other page and sending some more data to Main page to add in Grid.When it load Main page second time, grid becomes empty.
You can visualize my Requirment as: I am selecting products from different page and putting it over Main page.
Hope my techie friends understood my requirement.

AFAIK, you are not keeping the grid values anywhere. You can keep the data source of grid view in session and update it when new links are added. Load the data source from session and bind gridview.
