I've a problem regarding focus ... whenever I run the application (C#) the focus goes to IE's address bar .. but I don't want
it to go there in any case, not even after any control
waiting for reply ...

I have set a combo box and some text box to display data. The combo box display the user name. one selecting a user name all its detail about the user should be displayed in respective text box. i have written the code like this

i have configure the combox box by the sqldata source control. i can view the name . but if select the name i can not view the respective data.. what i am missing plz help

One guess, do you want selectedvalue, or selectedText ? Try setting a breakpoint and seeing which property contains the data you need.
Of course, this code is incredibly nasty, I hope no-one is paying for this, and you're just learning ? You should never have database code like this sitting inside your codebehind, it's a maintenance nightmare.

I am using asp.net 3.5 , Its my first ever experience that I am building a site which could hold millions of records and 1000's of users can sign in togather, This application is some thing like property real estate. Now the problem which I am facing is the following.
Since application could have millions of records and millions of users navigating togather with in the application so what should be the development architecture.
If I shall use web service as Bussiness Layer then we need to place to hostings one for service and other for main application where we want to deploy single application on IIS to use this as a product in future. Also if I shall keep the webservice then on each user login or each query system will open a new connection with SQL server which would kill SQL server.
If I keep a Bussiness Tier in the middle ( like Transaction Server) even then connection to SQL Server will go to millions when million of users will sign in togather.
I dont understand what should be the best as I am just working on this issues now a days to define architecture well before starting development.
Any Suggestions or any links which could help me would be highly appreciated.

Our company runs a web site with fairly high load. At high tide it goes up to about 400 requests per second.
We have two load balanced web servers, and one database server. The web servers doesn't work very hard, though. At top load they reach 4% CPU usage...
It's a three tired application, but the business layer is part of the application running on the web servers, so there is no physical separation between the presentation layer and the business layer.

There is hardly any risk for that. The database connections are pooled in .NET, so most of the time you will recycle an already open connection instead of establishing a completely new connection.
If you just try to minimise the time that you use the connection (open late, close early), each page will use a connection only a few milliseconds, so the server can produce a whole lot of pages per second with only a few connections in the pool.
However, to reduce database load you can use caching in the web application. We cache search results (lists of item id:s) and items (cars), so some pages are created without the need to call the database at all.
Despite everything, the person most likely to be fooling you next is yourself.

Try writing it as a function and registering it with the body onload event. More likely than not the script is running but the page hasn't finished loading yet.

i have one server in which the printer is installed, the clients are printing from server. So, i want to authenticate those clients before printing using asp.net?
means if in server client architecture of any company,
clients are printing from any type of application like
word, power point, excel or even from web browser,
i want to stop them to printing unlimited prints,
one asp.net application is currently running, clients logins are also available in it, so using those login i want to give rights for printing.
i am talking about system printing from any application and authenticate them using asp.net application.
if it's possible?
can anyone give me idea or code for print authentication from client computer to server?

Hi, i have written one windows sevice and i have been build that service.
An exe file is generated for that service. using installutil.exe that file has been installed. but the service is not showing under Administrtaivetools->services.
Is the service not created? or any other reason.
I am getting succesful message in command prompt after using istallutil.
please help me regarding this.

You totally missed the concept. AFAIK, ASP.NET can't print anything. It's handled by the browser where the pages are displayed.

As I said, you can't do this with ASP.NET. It is a server side scripting language which emits HTML tags to the browser. You can't set permissions to a printer using ASP.NET. Also the printing is handled by your browser, not ASP.NET. ASP.NET just renderer the tags into appropriate HTML and sends to browser via HTTP/HTTPS protocols. Buy a beginner level ASp.NET book and learn how it is working.

Ashish: U R right. But, this is the requirement of our client, through their web app, they requires printing authentication using this.
And this is one type of challenge for me to give them best from my side.
i am looking forward about this problem,
that three things can help me
1) timer
2) threading
3) spooling & shell32.dll
currently i am looking on these three things to develop 'print auth' app.
u can focus on these thing and can make any sol

Well, your job, if you have any idea at all, is to educate your client on technical possibilities. The fact that you ask the same questions here over and over b/c you don't like the answers, shows you are far from an 'expert'.

If you had the slightest clue about how ASP.NET works, you'd know why these things are not going to help you. I second the recommendation that you buy a beginners book on ASP.NET and read it. You can run a .NET control inside the browser, but I doubt even then you can get that sort of access to the system. It's possible that would work, but it means your users will need to give your site full trust. At this point, your code would have nothing to do with ASP.NET, obviously.
