I have written three groups of classes that implement custom columns and editable cells in a DataGridView. GridMaskedEdit implements a masked edit control, GridNumericCell implements a custom numeric text box based on the framework's TextBox, and GridDate implements a custom date control hosted in a UserControl.
Imagine if a standard DataGridTextBoxColumn and one of each of these is added to a DataGridView. Add a couple of blank rows. Increase the height of one of the rows.
Enter the DataGridTextBox column and begin to edit: the carat positions itself in the left middle. When you leave the cell, the text remains aligned in the left middle.
Enter the GridNumeric column and begin to edit: the carat positions itself to the right middle (where it belongs.) When you leave the cell, the text remains align in the right middle.
Enter the GridDate column and begin to edit. The date control's editing interface appears docked to the top of the cell and is bordered in light blue (the control highlight color?) When you leave the cell, the control disappears and the text is repositioned to the left middle.
Enter the MaskedEdit column and begin to edit. The same thing that happens in the GridDate column happens here: the edit control is drawn at the top of the cell and is bordered in light blue. When you leave the cell, the control disappears and the text is repositioned to the left middle.
Basically, I want the date and masked edit controls to appear without a border, in the same middle position where the text will go. I have compared all the code for these three column/cell/control groups, and it is all the same. Commenting out the alignment code in the GridNumeric set (the only meaningful difference between it and the others) only changes the alignment of the text: it still appears with no border and centered vertically.
This kind of project seems very common, as CodeProject has lots of examples. Any suggestions on where to look for a solution?

After installing Visual Studio 2008 w/ SP1 and .NET 3.5 SP1, I went to use some of the functionality found in 3.5. Two of the DLLs that I was going to reference from the 3.5 framework were not in c:\windows\assembly. I am seeing the version 2.0 DLLs but not the 3.5 versions. I have uninstalled the frameworks and visual studio and reinstalled numerous times in different orders to try and resolve this issue. Has anyone else have this issue and know a solution or could point me in the right direction? I have googled the heck out of this to no avail.
The two DLLs that I have noticed ( I am sure there are more)
System.Deployment
System.Configuration
As a footnote, I am seeing some of the 3.5 DLLs in the assembly folder like:
System.Data.Linq
System.Core
System.AddIn

It is my understanding that the .Net Framework 3 and 3.5 are built on version 2. I think (but I am not certain) that some of the files are not updated to version 3.5, instead using the older version 2 files. I would suggest creating a new project in VS that targets version 3.5, and take a look at the file versions it references.

Thank you for your response.The project is a brand new project with the 3.5 framework targeted. The MSDN states that the two DLLs that I listed have 3.5 version for them. Was just curious if anyone else had ran into this before. I guess the next step is to backup and start from scratch.

You will get lots of Test Atmosphere there in Visual Studio Team System Suite.
If you have that one, just try that ....

What does coding conventions and practices have to do with the .NET Framework?
Before you worry about something as specific as that you might want to elevate your abilities in some other important areas such as this one.[^]

The basic idea of having conventions is to have uniformity among the code written by different developers in a Team. The ulitimate goal is to make code Readable.
Still, if you want to look for conventions...Google it.

Well...the ultimate goal is really to have the code look like it was written by one person in a single session. Unfortunately, that is a complete ideal and isn't 100% practical in the real world without resulting to dogmatic and dictatorial enforcement.

That being said, the goal of a coding style is to create code that is easily readable and maintainable by any developer by creating a consistent "look and feel" and structure.

I am having state management problem.Currently I am using
<sessionState mode="InProc" stateConnectionString="tcpip=127.0.0.1:42424" sqlConnectionString="data source=127.0.0.1;Trusted_Connection=yes" cookieless="false" timeout="20"/> in my web.config file and its working fine
As there are two other state management methods StateServer and SqlServer I am a bit confused which one to use.And if anyone can tell will there any problem if i use the current setting?What are the changes I have to make in my current settings to avoid any problem as once I opened my website and a link was shown to me "the object has been moved here".When I clicked that my home page loaded but i was unable to access my admin page by logging in and redirected back to the login page.In my code the username is stored in session variable and if it is not provided the user will be redirected to the login page and even after providing the username and password I was kept redirected to the login page.I thought it definitely is session's issue. When that home page loaded directly by typing the url after a while, there was no problem.Can anyone explain what is wrong?Thanks

i have installed a DLL in GAC throug gacutil and the asembly is visible in the window\assembly
but i cant add reference of it into my project as in the referances ot does not appear .
where is the problem ?

A serializable class, simplistically, is one that can be saved in it's current state to a medium such as the hard drive or into memory. One reason to do this is to transmit the class via a remote interface, so the remote application get's a copy of the data at the point at which it was serialized. Another reason would be to save the data to disk.

As Pete explained, serialization transforms object(s) to/from raw data for the purpose of transmitting or persisting them.

Hello,
I want a custom class "MyException" inherited from Exception class which will be used exactly same as the Exception class i.e. "MyException" must handle all the exceptions thrown by the try block. like
public TestException
{
try
{
int i=0,j=0;
j=25/i;
}
catch(MyException ex)
{
MessageBox.Show(ex.Message);
}
}
The catch block must be respond the same way as if i use
catch(Exception ex) which can handle all the exception.
