See amazon, there is a rating for each book I think, but if you have a good basics book, you'll learn the rest from msdn.

See this tells me you don't have a clue about .Net. .Net is language independent. You can create .Net winforms and webforms with VB, C++, C# and I even heard you can do it with COBOL if you really like too. The thing is that the only valid options you have considering your experience is C++ or C# and I would go for C#. ASP.Net is more complex then winforms and it's easier to develop if you can keep your mind off pointers and garbage collection.

Start with C#. It's the main language for .NET, and is a more modern language than C++. While studying C#, you will gradually encounter more and more .NET concepts.
Start with any beginning book on C#. Then "Effective C#" by Bill Wagner is a good second book. It covers key points that a beginning book will gloss over.
There are three versions of C# in current use. After the first two books above, "C# in Depth" by Jon Skeet covers C# versions 2 and 3, assuming you already know version 1.
ASP.NET and ADO.NET can be used from any .NET language, and are used to make web pages and access databases.

I am developing a desktop application in C#.Net which opens
another form of an unmanaged application. The WinForm(of unmanaged application) has number of controls on it .Textbox has a focus when application starts.I just want to focus on the third control which is a button by programmatically pressing the tab key
SendKeys.SendWait(Keys.Tab.ToString()); //for taking focus on second control
SendKeys.SendWait(Keys.Tab.ToString());
//for taking focus on the desired button which has a tabindex=2(0,1,2)ie third control
It is not taking the focus from the textbox to the button but instead typing in the textbox "Tab".

If you have created an application which uses database, and installed it for your client. Next you have updated the application and updating the database structure. So the client's database and the newest database has different structure. What is the ideal way to update the database structure, and still using client's previous entered data. I use C#.

Hi Guys,
I am working on a console app which telnets to a linux server. Now this linux server ask for a username and password which i try to send via my code. Now everything works up until the SendKeys.SendWait() - it seems that the window does not react to the "Enter" command. I have tested this with some other telnet servers, which are not linux and they work. Any help or if any other work around are available I am open for anything.
My issue is - I have a system built by ADP and would like to grab data from them and put it into my on db to process. However, their system is closed and the solution I came up with is to screen scrape what I need. If you guys know something alredy out there or can point in the write direction it would be great.

Not sure I can help, but I wrote a telnet client to do similar stuff (connect to a SCO UNIX box and manipulate a third-party character-based application). I had to create a script language for it. A Windows Service would cobble up the necessary script and run it.
A sample script to log onto a server, execute ps -a, and disconnect:

The important bits are:
System.Net.Sockets.TcpClient
System.Net.Sockets.NetworkStream
Anyway, I didn't use SendKeys, I simply used Read and Write on the stream.
I would have written an article on it, but the handling of telnet options isn't quite right.
