Well here goes my 1st few:
- Background downloader stops downloading when close is pressed, it would be better to just hide this window .
- Multiple download threads.
- Resume capablitiy.
- The ability to follow links (up to x links, like a spider ,ie Teleport Pro) in the same "directory".
BTW I use IE 6 , XP SP1.
Else it works like a bomb (not a real bomb).
Give them a chance! Do it for the kittens, dear God, the kittens!

I personally hate programs that don't close when you click the close button (like, say, MSN Messenger). A "minimize to the tray" option is on the list for the next revision, however, which will let you free up the Taskbar real estate and keep the app running.

This is already present, if you stop in the middle of a file, IE should resume the file using the already-downloaded cached portion.

Hi All,
I have been creating a project (on my own time) that manages the Snort IDS Tool. Unfortunately my time is so limited, I haven't been able to devote much time. Because I wanted to present this on CodeProject (as a CodeProject Application), it is time to ask for help. If there is anyone that is interested in really helping to in creating a CodeProject App. from resources at CP, let me know.
Now to tell you about the Project:
I decided to write a program to view the logs generated by Snort. I needed something that could view alerts/generate reports for Windows Versions of Snort (Linux in the future). I also had to come up with a name and since I was reading lines in the snort log file, I thought the name was obvious "Snort-Lines". Now that the name was born, it was time for the picture, it was obvious how this was going to turn out!
This Projects Goal is to create a "Pure" CodeProject app that Manages the Snort IDS Nodes in an Enterprize Network (or smaller if needed). My first shot at doing something was SnortLines. As I read the site name "Snort-Lines Management Console", it was obvious that this needed to be more than reading log files because there is much more to snort. There are some examples on the Snort-Lines Web Site.
My ideas have grown into a "Snort Management Console (SnortMC)" that one will be able to manage the Snort IDS Nodes in their network from on Management Console. Although the code is only half done, there are a lot of thoughts in how to do this. Some of the things I have finished is the Services that watch the IDS node directories on the SnortMC. When a file is modified in these directories, the service sends it (via TCP...encrypted) to the Node. There is an idea for a GUI (also Half done, but functional) to manage this.
There is more to talk about, but I think I need to know if someone is really interested in creating an app that the source code will be available to all as CodeProject.

A majority of UI developers are playing catch-up with Microsoft's UI technologies that appear in Office and other applications. Microsoft, in my opinion, have standardised UI frameworks to death. I'm just wondering, why should it be like that? Surely if I were designing all the controls from square 1 they would look nothing like Microsoft's?

We've upgraded the email server for CodeProject and I'd like some feedback from those receiving the HTML version of the newsletter.
Have you been receiving blank newsletters, or newsletters as attachements instead of in the message body? Has the HTML been screwed up in any way? If so, was their any change in this weeks's drop? I tested as extensively as possible but with so many users using so many different mail servers and clients it's difficult to get full coverage.

I've been working on a wrapper for the XML classes in C#, which does the following:
simplify document management, so that adding nodes, etc. takes one line instead of 3-4
add facilities such as searching for nodes using RegEx, custom error handling, validation via a DTD or XSD either on demand or automatically, namespaces controlled via an enum, etc.
I've also written a simple GUI app as a test bed for the wrapper, it also servers as an XML/XSL editor, and I'm adding a pane to edit an XSD tonight.
The wrapper is going to be published in WDJ, so I'm not looking to distribute it terribly widely, but I would like it if I could find some folks who use XML/C# and who would be willing to give it a test run for me. It's over 2,000 lines of code and the job of testing it all is a little daunting.

This is my requirement:
I need a view of everyones free and busy times for a certain day.
It should look very similar to the "scheduling" tab in Outlook when making an appointment with someone.
Catches:
This is going to be used a lot so performance is particularly NB.
Need the ability to click on a "busy" part of someone's day and hyperlink to another part of the system.
Doesn't HAVE TO be web-based.
Anyone done this before?
Me and Mike are architecting this and the rest of the app, so we'll try and put a screen shot of Chris or something as an easter egg.

Hello,
I'm not sure if this is the best place for this, but it's the first and only place I could think of.
I have had an idea for a while and have done some quick research and was wondering what people thought about it and if anybody is interested in perhaps helping me do something with it.
My idea has to do with identifying songs or audio files with some sort of waveform "thumbprint". An application that I thought of that could use this is an mp3 tagger for example. Text is a very unreliable method of matching for applications like this. Audio matching is the best option that I can think of. The thing is, is that waveform matching is not a new idea as it turns out. The company auditude (www.auditude.com[^]) has some technology that creates audio "thumbprints" and they also have a product called ID3man (www.ID3man.com[^]) that does ID3 tag matching. I downloaded this product and it asks you a whole bunch of personal questions in order to use it which I find to be completely unnecessary and it also costs money to use it (which is not really all that bad, people need to make money some how). So the technology exists and auditude says that have 3 million+ audio signatures in their database to match against. But I'd like to create something similar that is a little more open and not so intrusive (no personal questions required for something so trivial). The CDDB vs. FreeDB thing is sort of what I'd like to do. I think auditude needs a little competition (if that's possible )
So what do you people think? Don't bother? Great idea?
I'm pretty clueless with audio, so that's where I'm pretty stuck. If anybody thinks they can help or just if you have comments then please let me know. I've been unemployed for 10 months now, so I've got lots of time on my hands.

Hi,
I am working on a personal project (not realeased yet) that creates catalogues of Disks and CDs. It then let you search in that catalogue
, look for duplicates/uniques (using CRC32), etc. When i get everything ready i will release it (free).
Then i will start working on something like the one you said. My first though is to read the first 30 sec of each MP3, normalize, smoth, and divide it to 3 basic friquencies (usung FFT). Let's say 5,10,15 Khz, calculate the total gain of those frequencies and store them in the catalogue as a Vector. After that, i have to find the distance of every Vector to each other. (actually i will use more friquences and use multidimensional vectors). The more close the vectors, the more similar the sounds. The user can choose the percentance of similarity.

That's my first add-in for Visual Studio.net, the main point is study try the way of developing the add-in for vs.net.Its main feather is collecting useful and repearable source code for you, you can select the code you want to collect and then drag or use popup menu to add them to "CodeCollector", when you want to use them, you can insert the content of file into your current document.
