Is there perhaps any easy way to take over ownership of an article, with the orginal authors consent of course.
There is an article on CP that has not been updated by the author for the last 5 years. I have made some additions to the source code listed in the article which I am sure the community would benefit from but I don't want to create a new article just for that. I also don't want to add the modifications/addtions in the comments section as it will probably be missed by lots of people.
There should also be a way to take over ownership of an article if the original author is no longer an active member of CP and cannot be contacted.

Just write your own article and post it.

It's unfortunate that there's currently no way to link the old article to your new article, but I agree with what John said.

I am not sure but reading through the Article Submission guidelines, at least with the current CP Article norms, this particular situation seems to be hitting against a hard wall.
I would like to quote the following from Article Submission page.
Submitting an article based on another person's work<br />

It is OK to use others code as a base as long as you make it totally clear that some/most of the code isn't yours. If you use someone else's code then DO NOT remove their copyright notices. There is a lot of code reuse here, that's the point after all. As far as the articles that are being posted here we expect to see credit where credit's due, in the code and the HTML as appropriate.<br />

If you are submitting a modification, extension or correction to another persons work then we ask that you attempt to contact the original author first and then try to liaise with him/her to produce an update to the original article. This way we can retain continuity with the original article as well as reducing the number of completely new pages that need posting.

We are completely revamping this to allow exactly what you are asking for.
It's long overdue.
However, there's a further issue I'd like your input on: what about articles that have been abandoned by members who no longer visit or care? Do we hand them to the community after doing our best to contact the author, or do we leave them intact and provide a simple "relationship" link?

how about:
1. leave the article the way it is (the original author remains the owner, he may still return)
2. offer the entire article (source+code+...) to whomever expresses a desire to adopt it
3. add to the original article a notice this has happened
4. if a new article results, add a link from the original to the new one

There are probably good reasons to keep the original article + download intact, including the possibility that the modified article might be a total poochscrew. I suggest that a button be prominently displayed on modified articles, that will take the viewer to the original (abandoned) article.

That's great news.
I think it's important to have additions etc stay within the same article. Even if you have a link pointing to an updated article people will still miss it. I do see a problem, as Hans pointed out, that the person who takes over the article might screw it up. Maybe the contributions of the new owner can be clearly delineated within the original article and have an option for the community to rate the new owner's contribution so that if it falls below a certain rating then the added section gets removed from the original article.

I don't see acceptance problems since more and more pages are adopting it. (Sourceforge, yahoo, google, myspace and microsoft to name a few)

CP, by virtue of its membership base should also need to consider where the largest userbase is from. I am trying to compare against another website called http://www.zoho.com/[^]. It supports Yahoo and Google authentication to signup.
However, I believe, Yahoo has begun to support OpenID now. [http://openid.yahoo.com/[^]]
Hence, perhaps Chris Team can consider having a poll to see which authentication also to support.

I have many bookmarks in codeproject, over 60 pages  it's hard for me to find the exact one, I searched the whole site, too many similar, I want to search my bookmarks for much less time wasting

I've been looking for WF threads to see what kinds of questions ppl have been asking, and what the solutions were. I dug through like 10 pages or so of WPF questions and finally gave up. Tried searching, but there are so many variations of the terms for 'WF' and a wide variety of subterms, that scanning through all WF related posts would be a real hassle. Could we split off the WF and maybe WCF forums so that the questions don't get drowned in the deluge of WPF? Thanks.

I agree. No useful purpose in combining the three when they really have nothing to do with each other (other than the last letter of their acronym).

I still really think there neeeds to be a split. The volume of WPF threads in there is growing, and will most likely continue to grow, faster than all the rest. It doesn't make sense to have all three together anyway, although I could understand it if there just wern't enough posts to warrant separate forums. At the very least, break off WCF/WF into its own forum, and let WPF grow in its own.

Could it be possible to have a download counter on articles. Now there's number of view's and bookmarks, but it would be nice to have the download amounts also. If the view graph would show also this on a daily basis, it would be great.
I think the download ratio over views would give some idea if people find an article useful. Of course there are votes, but compared to the view amounts they are quite rare.
