How to use Jquery validation plugin in ajax update panel?

Hello.
I know many websites already discuss this, but I have yet to find a code that actually works correctly on our site. I would like a Facebook Icon, Twitter Icon, and LinkedIN Icon (NO text), that allows a user to click on either one of the three icons/widgets which allows users to Share our website on the widget they chose. I do not want to add the infamous "Add This Button" I want only those three widgets. Any advice/direction/coding will be accepted. Thank you.

Yes it is very helpful to the other people on this site that freely give there time to help those asking for help. When you cross post someone that freely gives there time might be wasting it answering you in one forum when an entire conversation with you is going on in another forum. It is rude and inconsiderate of you to do that, period, end of story.

First not every question demands a length conversation, and this is one of them. and this tiny little thing didn't got through your brain. How could it have been when you were jumping around forums just to see what went wrong.
Also, If some one cross-posts he/she should take responsibility for managing all conversations, you probably wouldn't have done that, but again not everyone is stupid like you. also I don't believe people cannot manage conversations with 4-5 individuals at the same time. and if the issues has been resolved in one of the posts, the one who started can politely thank those who participated and notify them about the status. Thats how it could work.

Hi guys,
I've been asked to look at updating an ActiveX control but it's pretty nasty and I'm wondering if these days there are better technologies to use as alternatives to ActiveX. Currently it's developed with MFC7.1 and it's generated entirely longhand using CRect, CBrush, CFont etc. It's an engine RPM bar that is updated with RPM values and the bar scrolls up and down depending on the rpm value. It also has a few other features like colour changes if the rpm is within certain limits etc. I'm sure you get the gist.

If we assume the use model of your control is to run in a Web Page in an IE browser (because you posted in the web development forum) then you might want to look into SilverLight and Flash and the other competitors in that space. However I don't believe you will find it a direct replacement for developing an ActiveX for other people to use in developing Web Pages for IE.

You assume correctly, it is indeed to run in a web page in a browser. I did start to look at Silverlight but I thought I'd get some feedback from other people before I jumped in with both feet in case there were other alternatives I'd overlooked.

I'm doing an application to send a simple email using the System.net.mail namespace and after progressing half way it comes back to say "The operation has timed out." forgive me if this the wrong forum.

Sure. How else is a "TIMEOUT" going to behave, of course it will happen "after some time" right?
Most likely you have no connectivity to the IP Address and/or port you are trying to connect to. You need to investigate why not. It could be that you provided a non existent address or that you are executing from behind a firewall or any number of other possible problems.

Hi,
I have 2 websites. I want users to be able to register once, and then be able to login into any one of the websites and have their user details displayed. The 2 websites are different in nature. The reason for doing it this way is because I don't want users to register twice, once for each site.
I am asking for your advice on how to implement something like this because I have never done it this way. I was thinking of having a separate database for my membership stuff. But if I have my membership stuff in a separate database as to the website database, won't this reduce speed because it is working with 2 databases??
Let me explain my scenario. Lets say I have an ecommerce application. One website that resides in South Africa, and the other website is in Australia. They are similar in nature, but each has their own database, and the "shared" membership database. Now this raises the next question, what should I all place in the shared database? Products? Product reviews? Country? etc etc etc.. Some where along the line I will need to make a relationship to link 2 tables in separate databases, like customer and product review. This is the type of questions that I have because I don't know how to implement this. It's like Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk. I am sure of it they have their own separate database for each website, but a shared database for memberships?
I hope I can make sense, can you please help me think through this scenario? What would I have to Google on something like this?

if you are using mysql you just need to grant access to the ip of each website. if they're both on one server you don't even need to do that.

I wouldn't worry too much about connecting to two databases, as long as you're pooling your connections it shouldn't cause much of (if any at all) a performance issue. If you really don't want to do it, you can use cross database joins (in SQL Server) or cross schema joins (in Oracle) as long as your two databases are on the same server. If they're on different servers you can use linked servers with SQL server but I wouldn't recommend it.

I would replicate the registered user information to achieve your requirment of

I can't imagine that you would be having thousands of new members signing up at each website, so I would build a webservice that would allow Website A to create a registered user in Website B and vice versa. This would allow your websites to operate independently yet provide the registered user easy access to both websites.

Hi all
I want to restrict users to access Java script files and CSS files using URL absolute path. Like if user type http://www.xyzxyz123.com/common.js this, browser will give a prompt to save the common.js file or it will open the js file content. So i want to restrict this type of access.
I had searched on google but i didn't get the solution can anybody suggest me a solution for this. Thanks for your time and consideration. Please help me.

Cannot be done.
You can try to hide your JavaScript and CSS in obfuscated files, but since the user's browser needs to have it in order to display your page, the resourceful user can always distill it back from there.

I'm trying to detect if my ATL control is installed on the users system in IE8. I am using the following vbscript code:

The problem is that the detection fails if the control has been installed by the user running firefox (or any other non-IE browser) and when the user later returns to the same page using IE8.
This is because IE8 blocks the object creation with an "Add-on disabled, Run add-on?" drop down info bar. My javascript/vbscript has no way to detect this situation, so i force a download ... which is is at best confusing to the user.
Anyone have a suggestion on what else i could try? Perhaps there is another way to detect this scenario. Or perhaps my installer needs to register something extra with IE8/windows when installed outside of the IE8 process.
