I wrote a Message on 20 June 2009 pertaining to Phone Book
I am using Nokia 2600c-2. I have developed an application and uploaded it to http://mombasa.250free.com/ Can someone log to http://mombasa.250free.com/ Click Phonebook link, the software will download to games folder. The phone automatically prompts to open the application, click yes. it will open the phone book if you allow application to read data 3 times. Press sync to start uploading, by allowing the application to edit and add new data in Gallery. when uploaded waiting for server connection is done, the phone book will close.
Exit http://mombasa.250free.com and open Applications folder, games, and then open phonebo... Allow application to read Data 3 times, allow application to edit and add new Data, it will start to upload and then sync. When uploaded, and waiting for server connection click done. The phone book will close. Exit Games
Open Gallery folder, images and you will find a Text file called phonebo... Open it and you will view all the contacts that were copied from the phone book.
How can I upload this text file to a database in a server and does any one have an idea when Sun will release JSR 230?
Joel Ivory Johnson and Jabbar_espania, are you reading this?

Rather than down vote your message, may I offer a suggestion. Consider the implications of what you are asking. Why would anyone even dream of following these instructions, with no knowledge of what damage such actions may cause.

I hope you read the message I wrote on 20 June 2009 pertaining to Phone Book.
I understand the issues you are raising. Maybe the question I should have asked is: How can I upload a Text File in the Images folder of Nokia 2600c-2 to a database in a server?
Any idea?

No, what relevance does it have to this issue?
As to your second question, I'm afraid I don't know offhand. I guess you need some connection from the phone to the server, plus some software on the phone that can send the data to the server, and some code on the server to transfer that data to the database. So that means either using Google to find a ready made package that will do this, or write some code yourself.

I am writing an app for Pocket PC that must concatenate several small wave files and play the result (text-to-speech). Loading the files from disk before concatenating them is too slow, so I decided to embed them by generating a class that includes each wave file as a byte array.
static byte[] aa_aa = {80, 100, 200, ...};
I assumed that this would make accessing them much quicker. It works fine if there are only a few, but when I have all 6 megs of them embedded in the class, when the app gets to the point of accessing one of these, I get a TypeLoadException. So I thought maybe it was because they were all declared static and it was trying to load all of them. So I rewrote it so that each byte array was in it's own class.
public class aa_aa
{
public byte[] bytes;
public void aa_aa()
{
bytes = {80, 100, 200, ...};
}
}
This way the byte arrays should only be instantiated when there is a new object of that class. Unfortunately, I am still getting the TypeLoadException whenever this class is used. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do to get around this?

I solved it. The problem wasn't with anything I posted here. It was in the code to pull out the resource. Basically, I had a switch statement to get an object from a string.
switch (resource)
{
case "aa-aa":
return new aa_aa().bytes;
case "aa-ae":
return new aa_ae().bytes;
....
}
The problem was that there were too many case statements. I didn't know that was possible. I changed it to use if statements instead it works fine.

I write as a novice working my way through the MSDN beginners section on programming. I've looked ahead to more advanced sections and do not see the connection to what I intend. I've been given Visual Studio Team Suite 2008 which I understand to be highly popular among developers. I have a mobile project in mind and might like to trade remote access to the app in exchange for some coding along with explanations.
This thing retails at $1600 and so it was my thought that this arrangement might be desirable to someone who would rather not give up that kind of cash in this economy. Looking for an informed opinion on whether this is a reasonable proposition. Many replies welcome.

Hello Guys,
Although I wasn't lucky getting any replies for my last question I asked two days ago, but I will ask this question hoping that somebody will help.
My question is about user notifications on WinCE 5 devices, does this feature really depends on the device manufacturer's OS image rather than the core OS features? What I found is that user notifications work just fine and as expected on some WinCE devices but not on others; I have 2 devices, one has WinCE 5 and the other WinCE 4.2, the one having WinCE 5 doesn't launch the application scheduled to run at specified time by it self, it only launches that application if the scheduling time passed and I change the system time manually from Date/Time settings found in control panel.
So, am I missing any thing about user notifications on WinCE devices?
Thank you guys for any help you provide.
Regards,
Ayman

I need to have an application display a login form when the device has been idle for a period of time. I am new to mobile development so I am unsure how to do this.
I have tried to use the GetIdleTime() function and the idle time keeps incrementing even when the device is not idle.
I call the function with a button click and everytime I click the button the time has incremented even when I do it repeatedly. Why does the time increase when it it not idle? I assume since I am getting values the device supports this.
I am using a Samsung Saga. The Visual Studio emulator stays 0 all the time.

how i can print from ppc (windows mobile) to usb printer
that connect to him ?
(the printer is connect to the terminal (ppc) in usb connection)
thank's in advance

There's no native support in Windows Mobile for printing. you will need to see if the vendor of your printer has an SDK for you to interact with it.

Hi Guys,
I'm trying to make a WinCE application that will work as a reminder, this application is going to be run by the OS every time interval, the application will play a sound to remind or notify the user, OK? until now everything is just fine, the problem is that this application should mute, halt, suspend - I don't know what is the best word to describe the process - any program(s) that is playing a sound, just like the situation when a phone call is received, if any application is playing any sound, it will be muted or halted
until the ringing is finished if the user didn't answer the call or until the user finishes the call, after that the sound playing will be resumed.
The question is: how can I accomplish something like that?
Thank you in advance for any kind of help.

Ayman

Hi
i do the first steps in vs 2008 mobile programming.
On my local pc i have a text file, which i would like to open with a streamreader.
Where i have to put the text file on my local pc?
I always get the error 'file not found' - is it possible the directly access to e.g. 'g:\test.txt' ?
I do not understand the path-organization (of the mobile device) while debugging.
Thank you very much for some ideas.

Make sure the text file is part of your project. If you right-click on the file and select "Propertues" from Visual Studio in the properties window that appears ensure that the file is set as content. Doing that will ensure it gets copied to the same folder as your application.
Once copied you must use the absolute path to the file in order to properly open it. Chances are you can use code like the following:
string fileName="MyFile.txt"
string FullPath=Path.Combing(Path.GetDirectoryName(this.GetType().Assembly.GetModules()[0].FullyQualifiedName),fileName);

Hi..
I have a question to ask. How would i actually remove a selected item from a listbox into a database. I have created these codes for my form but it says invalid operation although the selected item does actually inserted into the database. Also, I am using foreach statement to get the selected item but if there is multiple text inside the listbox. the selected item being inserted into my database would have been doubled..
private void btnSave_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
SqlCeConnection listConn = new SqlCeConnection("Data Source = \\My Documents\\ContactsDB.sdf");
try
{
listConn.Open();//--open conection--
if (listosend.SelectedItem == null)
{
MessageBox.Show("No Item Selected");
}
else
foreach (string item in listosend.Items)
{
SqlCeCommand insertCommand = listConn.CreateCommand();
SqlCeCommand insertCommand2 = listConn.CreateCommand();
System.Diagnostics.Trace.WriteLine("List Box : " + listosend.Text);
//listosend.Items.Remove(listosend.SelectedItem.ToString();
insertCommand.CommandText = "Insert into Orders(OrderDate, Food) VALUES ( '" + txtDate.Text + "','" + item + "')";
insertCommand.ExecuteNonQuery();
insertCommand2.CommandText = "Insert into Customers (PhoneNo) VALUES ('" + txtFrm.Text + "')";
insertCommand2.ExecuteNonQuery();
listosend.Items.Remove(item);
}
listConn.Close();//--close connection--
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
MessageBox.Show(ex.Message);
}

Well, from looking in it you've got nothing to keep the program within the main function. It's registering some things and then continuing on to exit the main procedure. You need a message processing loop in your program.

Hi,
I would like to migrate a CE 5.0 handheld product to Windows Mobile 6.5 (Not application migration, looking for OS Migration details)
Currently product supported features are: 802.11 a/b/g, Bluetooth, WPA or WPA2 security, WWAN, GSM/GPRS, GPS receiver, Barcodes, Display and Keyboard properties (touch screen, function keys, alpha numeric keys), Interfaces( USB Host & Client, Powered RS-232, Ethernet etc) etc.
My understaning is to migrate this product to WM, get the WM binaries from Microsoft and pull required drivers from current Win CE OS image and put in to new WM OS image. As WM on top of WinCE, changes in drivers will be very less. If I am wrong please share what are the changes required here.
Also I feel there will not be any chanegs requried in BSP/boot loader. Please correct me if my understaning is wrong or if anything I am missing here please let me know.
Ultimately I would like to know what will be the technical appraoch to migrate WINCE 5.0 to WM 6.5.
Thanks for your help.

Noushad

Hi,
I'm writing a replacement for the volume control of Windows Mobile. To do so my program hooks the keyboard and listens for keypresses on the volume hardware keys. This works great but if WMP is in foreground it doesn't work. I've found the same behaviour in HTC FM Radio.
Why do these programs break the keyboard hook and how can I get this working?
This is the hook code (nothing special I think):
hookDeleg = new HookProc(HookProcedure);
hHook = WinApi.SetWindowsHookEx(WinApi.WH_KEYBOARD_LL, hookDeleg, WinApi.GetModuleHandle(null), 0);
if (hHook == 0)
{
MessageBox.Show("Keyboard Hook Failed", "VolumeKeys Error", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Exclamation, MessageBoxDefaultButton.Button1);
Application.Exit();
}

Hi,
I want to write System files in window CE Compact flash card so that it
boots from CF flash. The files are
1.Configuration file: bootcepc.cnf
2. Boot logo .pcx file: bootcepc.pcx
3. Kernel Image file (nk.bin)
To write i have just copied file's by copy and paste in Flash but it doesn't
work and i am getting error like "Boot failure" . I heard about a utility
named (makeCFUtility) used to write in Flash. But i don't know how to
download this utility.
Is there is any other way to write system files in Flash card.
I am using Advantech single board (PCM-3370 F) with 128 MB RAM . The OS used
is Window CE 5.0.
