Hi,
I am trying to create a basic forum in ASP.NET.I would like assistance in regards how i could go about designing a forum from a GUI point of view.
How would i go about desiging the forum based on the following tables?
I have a 3 tables
Members
ID
Name
Username
Password
Threads
ThreadID
ThreadTitle
ThreadSubject
Comments
CommentsID
ThreadID
MemberID
Comment
The members ID is linked to the members ID in Threads table
The thread ID is then linked to a thread ID in the Comments table
The member ID is then linked to the member ID in the Comments table.
I am using a DataGridView to display the the comments information from the comments table
Is it neccessary to have a Comments table and keep the actual comments seperate in regards
to design?
Should i also put the thread title and username in the comments table?
How could i go about designing the forum from "GUI" point of view?
I would appreciate if anybody could advise please?

From design prospective..Yes... necessary...No! Its about normalization... keeping it separate is good design.

No. As said, normalization should be applied while DB designing... Keeping them together would break the Normalization rules and not a good practice.

Design the GUI as per your need/usability need. for start, fill few sheets of paper/ppt what looks a good flow, then try to develop accordingly.

HttpResponse is a class, not a method; classes cannot be overloaded. Nor can it be replaced easily: it is flagged as not inheritable.
Depending on what you want done, you might be able to create a wrapper class. You can obtain a reference to the current Response object through System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Response. Write what methods you need, then call your wrapper instead of Response. If you want to override methods like Write, you will need to write custom code that either reformats the text before passing it to Response or write your own custom text outputter.

I didn't notice the class was sealed. Bummer, I was hoping there was a factory that I could configure in web.config to return a custom type instead. Thanks for your help.

Hey guys,
I am new to C# and know very little about ASP.net and classes in general. All that to say I got a project file for Visual Studio 2008 that is a C# web form that is suppose to allow you to enter address info: Street, City, State and Zip and then in a text box below shows that info in a mailing address format, e.g.
123 Easy St.
Anytown CA, 98541
Anyway its got other classes in it and the webform .cs file has nothing in it. I was wondering why they did not use the .cs file from the web form also it has lots of errors in it, I guess because it can't connect the proper classes. In fact if I run as is it says:
"'ASP.default_aspx' does not contain a definition for 'btnGetAddress_Click' and no extension method 'btnGetAddress_Click' accepting a first argument of type 'ASP.default_aspx' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) C:\Users\Jordan McGehee\Desktop\AddressApp\Default.aspx 59
Why will it not run? Also can it be simplified using the web form (default) class? I am trying to get to know ASP.net but don't have a lot of direction.

Yes, you are correct there should be a code behind file to support this page. These attributes, CodeFile="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="_Default", are telling the compilation engine where to look for the event definitions and other pieces. Since it isn't there you are getting the error.
The frmAddress class can't be used in here because it is a Windows form, not a webform.
I'd advise throwing this example away. Whomever pointed you to it as a learning project was not very kind to you. Look here, http://www.asp.net/[^], for some better starter examples.

Is the "Address" class good to use, if so how do I connect the class from the webform and the class of the "Address" class?

Although there is nothing wrong technically with the address class, it is a very poor example. The use of getter and setter methods rather than properties is poor design and shows little understanding of .NET. As I said before, throw this example code away and don't listen to the person who recommended it.
This example makes use of .net automatic properties, i.e. no backing field

Hi, I have a matrix on RDLC report viewer as following:

The Subtotal values in column and row are auto-calculated by the matrix object.
How can I access the subtotal value 70, 80, 150 to calculate the % values?

You can use the group names in totals to calculate.
You could do something like - matrixcoltotal / matrixtotal.
Your expression will look something like this. =Sum(Fields!ReportField.Value,"MatrixGroup")/Sum(Fields!ReportField.Value,"dataset").
Using fields as a real example...
Assuming the name of the column group is WeekStartDate, something like the following should work:

the difficulty is in the redirect when I double click on a line, I failed to do that, here is my gridview code click :

There is no native double-click event, and in fact, you are only using the click event.
What is happening? Are you not getting the postback at all? Rather than try a posback why not use a hyperlink to the page?
Also, you should use CSS classes rather than hard coding your styles. I'd also investigate JQuery for some of this. You can get almost the same functionality without the weight of the ASP.NET gridview.
