I can live with that. Then there is always the possibility to revise your decision later for individual users. From my experience with other forums, people don't end up being blacklisted quickly but usually stay there for a long time. A ignore list will not stand in the way of users changing their behaviour.

No, the point is filtering text from disruptive people not to ban them for the whole community. From my experience with other forums this works even very well in long threads, it gives you a strong indications to read on or not.

No, but if you don't see them then you don't get to see that their behaviour has improved.

And you end up losing context. Ultimately, you can see the user name easily, so just ignore them if you want to.

Pete this is just a suggestion with additional features for those who want to use it, nobody is forced to use it. 
Let's assume for a moment you want to use it, it will give you new possibilities to ignore, unignore users, see ignored messages on a extra click (details depend on technical implementation, but that's how it works in other forums). As long as someone is on your personal ignore list, it's a concious decision that this user is more disruptive than helpful. With a ignore list you gain productivity and a more relaxing time. If you don't want to use it, nothing changes from your perspective.

I agree, but I think there are bigger things for Chris and co to focus on hence the alternative viewpoint - I really don't see it as that big an improvement, but if we all agreed with each other all the time, this would be a really crappy site.

I know there are some who would like it but it would not, in my opinion, be a highly used feature and would create more issues than it would solve. Well, issues for us, in any case

When you post a tip/trick, the Date Posted doesn't actually show the date until some time after it was posted. For instance, I posted one on Saturday, and today the date posted reads "2 days ago". I personally think this serves no beneficial purpose as opposed to just posting the date.
The reason I'm asking is that it makes scraping the data (specifically, the date posted) a bit more problematic because now I have to have two different parsing methods and the possibility of having to do date math.

1. for small timespans relative time is easier to humans than absolute time
2. easy scraping is not very relevant, those pages are for human consumption.
3. consistency; articles, forums, Q&A, T&T all should use the same.

For Tips n Tricks I think you're right: we should be showing absolute dates, no relative, since tips are less time sensitive than Q & A's.
You're just really trying to get me to finalise the API, aren't you?

I am not able to add comment to this[^] answer. This was reported before but we were able to add comments to the posts after sometime so it was not a considered a bug I guess. But it is happening again. 
Anyone facing same issue?

I am trying to track down why you are having issues with adding comments.
Were you having problems with your Internet connection at the time, such as very slow response.
Did you disable JavaScript?
Were you connected at a different location than normal?

No.

Internet speed was comparatively slower than the normal at that time. But then I could access every other page properly.

Looks like deleted comments are not really deleted, I can see them in two different ways:
- While being logged in, go to a QA page where you deleted your own comment. It still shows the comment there with a remark "Publishing Status: Deleted". Why not remove it from the HTML output?
- While not being logged in, deleted comments are not visible on the QA page. However, go to your user's profile page and click on "Comments Posted" (example), you will be able to read all comments including deleted ones.
Sorry if this was posted previously, hope this feedback helps.

Thanks for bringing this up. What we're planning to do is hide it everywhere except on the My Comments page. We'll hide their initially/by default as well but allow an option to see deleted comments.

When I posted my recent Tip/Trick (see below), I saw the message "You can add new tags to the system...". So I entered some tags, one of them being "32-bit". I don't think this was accepted, because now when I try to search for 32-bit, the search filter flips back to the previous setting.
So how do I get a new tag accepted, so I can search for it?
