I may have spoken too soon. I've been doing some tests and I can get leading spaces highlighted easily outside of our stylesheet.
It's our problem, I'll fix it.

in a simple, non-CP, web page using FF3.0 (except for line 5, needs CP styles)
and I explain it like this:
- lines 2 and 4 are no surprise;
- lines 1 and 3, ignoring tags, have consecutive spaces; all but the first get eaten, as it is outside PRE tags;
- line 5: seems like you fixed something I did it right this time (no space before opening SPAN tag!).
The space reduction should (my opinion, maybe W3C thinks differently) take into account the spaces having different attributes.
Anyway, as it is now, I can get what I want as line 5 demonstrates.

PS: Of course there still are issues 2 and 3 in my OP.

I say hello to you.
In the above sentence, I see "hello " highlighted while I'm expecting " hello " to be highlighted (i.e., the leading space isn't highlighted, which seems incorrect to me). Looks like Code Project doesn't do anything special with the rendered HTML though, so I'd call this a browser bug or quirk.
I'm using IE8 on XP Pro.

Yeah, that bug is annoying. I sometimes have to insert BR tags to workaround it. By the way, this is the HTML I used for the sentence at the top of this post:

huh? I simply put a space between > and NewLine and that seems to fix it every time; and each time I forget, I have to correct it.

I know you guys just lounge around a lot because you can't think of anything to do on the site, so...
0) Add "Total Reputation Points", "Tips/Tricks", and "Blog Entries" to the filter choices.
1) Add "Last XXXX posted", where "XXXX" would be "article", "blog entire", "tip", "answer", "question", or "forum message". For all of those things, the date of the event would be shown, and for article, blog entry, or tip/trick, it would also include a link to the item.
Item #1 above could also be added to the member's profile page.

Would it be feasible to try a silverlight experiment on CP? The reputation graph would be a great place to start.
I envision the existing line graph with a timeline graph underneath it, and the ability to hover over a point in the graph that shows the value of the currently hovered point.
Something with a bit more interactivity than a standard png file.

We originally tried something analogous to that using Flash but our results were awful because of the component we were using. We put the project on hold, but if you're bored, and enjoy silverlight...

It's not that I love silverlight. I just think if I make a suggestion, and the site admin offers to let me take a stab at it, it would be beyond hypocritical to turn down the offer if I thought I had the skills to put my money where my mouth is.

As per the FAQ for reputation points:
The more a member's reputation increases within a given category, the more their votes count towards other members when voting on items within that reputation category.
For example, a member with a high Authority ranking (someone who answers a lot of questions) but a low Author ranking (they don't post many articles) will have their vote counted strongly when voting on answers, but not so strongly when voting on articles
Now, i assume that the ranking is Bronze-Silver-Gold-Platinum...
Based on this, if one Platinum debator votes 5 for a posted message and other platinum debator votes 1 for the same posted message, then overall votes status should be 3/5 (2 votes), right?
From last few days, i had observed that when i try to upvote 1/5 (1 vote) status message, it squares up to 1.44/5 (2 votes)
Considering my debator reputation (i.e. Platinum), won't my vote should have made it 3/5?
It looks like my platinum reputation is not powerful enough!

I think they may be doing it by reputation *points* rather than just a simple "level" (like platinum).

Lets say if that's the case. Debator points are considered while giving a weightage... I have around 4400 debator points and the ratio is 8(1/5 -> 1.44/5), the other person should have around 4400*8 = 35200 debator poitns.
Now, picking particular incident, i found that in ASP.NET forum this happened with me for a message (not an answer). Not too many big shots (whose debator points are around 32K or more) visit there... and i have a wild guess of who the other member was based on the message conversation ... i dont find *debators total points* come into play.
Further, the ratio is constant from couple of weeks or so, inspite of more points gained. It doesn't look like points ratio (which can be any real number)... it looks like an exact integer in play.

maybe it's not the platinum or gold status but the actual points that count
and if the 1 vote was from someone like JOSP or CG or DD you lose big time

IMO which reputation component is used is not always obvious.
To turn one vote of 1 into an average of 1.44, the original must have been 8 times stronger than the second,
as (1*8 + 5*1)/(8 + 1)=13/9=1.44
So it was a platinum one and a white/bronze five that got combined.

Thats was what i tried to convey... since i was a Platinum in Debator... why my vote was considered as a White/Bronze when i tried to upvote a general forum message that had 1/5 (1 vote)?
