Hi,
Looking for any sort of code that would popup a small message to the user. The msn messanger has a really good one, when you have new mail at your hotmail account, or you receive a message from somebody new.
I want to have an app that polls a remote app(via Internet) and when it picks up a string message from the remote server, it displays it on the desktop of the client.

If you create a hidden ListCtrl you can use GetWindowRect() to get the dimensions of the header control and GetTextMetrics() to get the font details.

I have two Dropdown listboxs and one grid
I select something from the first list and the second list will have new selections and after I select something from the second list the Data in the datagrid will change, all this without moveing from one page to another, it all has to happen in one page DYNAMIC!!
What is the simplest way on doing it?

Does anyone know how to make menus in a skinned mfc application. I am looking into doing this but I have no idea where to start or how to go about doing this. The menus in ICQ is a good example of what I am looking to do. A menu that can be activated by a button would be the proper terminology. If anyone can help me on this, or has done something of this sort could you please send me the code to do so?

I am doing my project in C. I have a table in Oracle. I want to access that oracle table in my C program. Pls tell me how can i connect the oracle database with C.

With just C, your choices are limited as to how to do this. I have used embedded SQL in the past and this worked amazingly well, but requires the use of the Pro*C Pre compiler that translates the embedded SQL into C code that links with the OCI. You can also try to write to the OCI, but this is not for the faint of heart. It requires a high degree of patience. You can also write using the ODBC API, but this again requires a high degree of patience in order to get it working. I unfortunately do not have any examples to provide you with assistance, cause all my stuff is C++ now. Sorry. If you have a valid Oracle support agreement, you can try searching at their MetaLink support site. There should be some examples available from there to help you out.

I have searched the forums and the question appears to have been asked many times, but never really answered, so I'll try again.
I have a CDialog-derived class, within which I need to scroll a portion of the dialog's contents. My particular case is that the dialog box size has to be fixed because of a low screen resolution on the target PC, but the contents are variable so a number of controls are added dynamically at run-time.
I have placed a vertical scrollbar control on the dialog resource, but I am having trouble making everything work together to allow the controls to be scrolled up and down without affecting the remaing area of the dialog (which contains OK and Cancel buttons in a fixed position).
Presumably I need to override OnVScroll, but what needs to go in it?

Couldn't you use a property sheet. The first set of controls on the first tab and the rest on the second?

I'm adding a several rows of controls (check box, label, combobox and text box) which are related and need to be viewed together, so the PropertySheet approach wouldn't be ideal.

Would a grid control help? Or are the controls too different on each row?

The controls will be the same on each row, though the contents of the list in the combo may be different on a row-by-row basis).
I'm not sure if a grid control would give an interface that the user would feel at home with.
The approach I have currently uses a structure containing the checkbox, etc. which I create the relevant number of in a column and then adjust the text/list properties accordingly. I just want to be able to get at them all from a single, fixed size dialog by scrolling.

Have you tried having a set of fixed controls, say three rows. Then when the scroll bar is clicked, you replace the first row's data with the second rows, the second row gets the third rows data and the third row is blanked.

Way too confusing for the user I think. They are very basic, new to computers/windows users.
The data is generally configured as sets of four or six rows. If any extra rows are required, it is likely to be an extra four or six.

Can't you just have pop-up dialogs containing the additional controls. I think what you are trying to do is going to be REALLY hard. But then, I've never tried it.
