i thought we are actually using data warehousing.

Hello friends,
I am facing problem since last 5-6 month in sql server in query executing it takes 10-12 mins to execute even if database is on local pc.
I want to decrease it and want to make it execte withing 30-40 sec..
It is getting data of whole month with subquery of 1-30 date and each joining 3-5 tables for 300-500 persons.
so any ideas....
 
One thing that i can do some process in background and insert fetched data to the some other table and at the time of executing above query fetch data from that table.
if its possible then how can i do it?Is there any other way to solve this problem?

Profile the query to see what's going on behind the scenes. It sounds like you have missing indexes there and that the query is performing table scans.

Try to check if making use of a temp table is better than the subquery.

Hi,
I read from msdn how VSTS 2010 provides inbuilt support for proxies to enable caching of source controlled files in remote locations so that clients can be configured to retrieve the source controlled files from the proxy and not the main server.
But I could not get to find any document which explains how to build a proxy server.
One important question on prox i have is the behavior in working.
normally while coding, a developer takes the latest version on to his desktop. While using proxy also is it the same or the client machine is always connected to the proxy and changes are made in the proxy? I guess is that behavior should not change and proxy is just a cache or temporary storage to reduce a lot of db calls to the main TFS server.
My understanding of data flow is Main TFS server -> Proxy Server -> Client machine.

If you have a proxy server in place, the developer working will be using the proxy server. The merging/synchronization of the proxy and the TFS server will be done as per the set up.

Important!!! proxy is about caching. so it means that actual source control is in TFS server only.
Danish, I had been through that page you have shared in the reply. But isn't it about how Visual Studio
client can take advantage of Team Foundation Server Proxy.
How do I create a proxy server?
Is it possible to move out the source control totally to a different computer /machine?
I am a bit confused now. Are proxies created on client machine itself?

Rather than trying to gain knowledge of TFS by posting questions piecemeal here on CP, I'd suggest that you need to buy a book on the subject and read that. This[^] book is a good place to start.

There's your problem right there. As the MSDN is web based, it offers you numerous ways to traverse through the documentation, which means that it's difficult to get a deep understanding because it tends to take you to places that don't immediately tie back to the concept you've just been looking at.

i am not sure if my understanding of this one is correct.
i have read that expression blend helps create graphical interfaces, helps with animation, video playbacks and works well with WPF and silverlight.
having made this statement what is then so special about expression being a part of TFS.
In the techinical architecture of TFS, along with word, excel, visual studio, microsoft project ... even expression is being identified as a client plug in!!! what does that mean? i thought we already were able to work with blend on wpf applications and silverlight applications.
what is different here?

The important thing to understand is that Blend produces XAML which, ultimately, converts into source code - in fact, it's declarative source code. This means that it needs to be plugged into a source control system in the same way that you would with a standard .cs file. By linking Blend to TFS, you get the advantages that changes to the UI can be tracked/rolledback in exactly the same way as changes to the business logic.

yes, now i got the point.
visual studio is connected to tfs with the view of source control and the underlying database.
a project created in visual studio can be opened in expression blend to improve upon the interface and provide good graphics.
but the fact is after enhancing the windows or web applications the changes and newly created files have to be saved back to TFS db
and source controlled.
so expression blend by plugging into TFS, takes the latest version from TFS and saves the modification back to TFS.

I have a Windows Service which manages an OutLook 2003 inbox. The service filter the mailitems using dasl queries, and the problem comes when unexpectedly goes out of order. The filter returns now null instead of Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook._MailItem.
Here is the dasl query i use to filter the inbox:

And this is the code i use to filter the _mailitem the filter function returns:

I’m trying to get the answer to this question (subject line). The doc on SqlConnection says
“Any public static (Shared in Visual Basic) members of this type are thread safe. Any instance members are not guaranteed to be thread safe.”
Which leads me to believe that the constructor is not thread safe. Just wondering if anybody sees this differently.

IMO constructors aren't thread-safe, nothing is unless special precautions are taken, and then it gets documented as in "Any public static ...". However, how could this be relevant for constructors, assuming they don't modify their optional parameters?

A constructor for sure could be thread-unsafe.
Imagine a class foo like this:
public class foo
{
private static Dictionary<foo> allInstances = new Dictionary<foo> ();
public foo()
{
allInstances.Add(this);
}
}
That .Add would not be safe. Unless for some reason .Net will not simultaneously create two instances of the same class at the same time. But I doubt that.

Thanks, I know how things become thread-unsafe. 
.NET does not mind two or more constructors running concurrently.
The SqlConnection constructor gets reflectored like so:
public SqlConnection()
{
this.ObjectID = Interlocked.Increment(ref _objectTypeCount);
GC.SuppressFinalize(this);
this._innerConnection = DbConnectionClosedNeverOpened.SingletonInstance;
}
and DbConnectionClosedNeverOpened looks like a typical singleton implementation.
Are you just curious, or are you having a particular problem? If so, you might have to expand on it (including .NET verion) in order to get a more effective answer.

Not just curious... I want to know if I need to synchronize execution of new SqlConnection(). With threading issues, it's hard to know if you done it wrong, since it may only fail when conditions are just so.
I doubt that the .net version matters, but let's say 3.5.

After some more reflection, I think constructors should always be thread-safe by default (i.e. if they aren't, it should be documented explicitly), and I expect .NET Framework classes to adhere to such rule. The MSDN statement "Any instance members are not guaranteed to be thread safe." IMO applies to the safety with respect to the current object, i.e. don't have two threads call methods on the same object at the same time.
