Yes and no.
I'm still rolling around in my head what would happen.
If it's only for the elite, then everyone else is annoyed and confused. If I open it up to everyone above, say, bronze, then that's fairer, but the risk of abuse is very high.
There's also the issue of how much load it will put on members' connections. And, what about cookie stealing? You have an image embedded in a message that points to another site and you have a security bug. If we host images on our site what will happen to bandwidth?
Do we really need images? In what way would members use them? Are links to flickr sufficient for those holiday snaps?
Or is your desire for images simply so you can have your avatar in your sig? If so, why don't I just show avatars in everyone's sig automatically?

A little ways down I tried to vote a 5 for wizardzz and i got a bright red "voting failed" message where the voting area is.
To the powers that be: I have IE7 both at home and at work and I have the hardest time with this site. Is this a hint at going to IE 9 or something?

This just started yesterday, for me. It may just be a Hotmail issue who knows. Some of the notifications to my thread reply's go to my Junk box and some go to my inbox. There is no tell-tale pattern or anything. I have Code Project added to my whitelist/allowed but it still happens.

On occassion, I want to send a user a message without other users seeing that message (such as when I inform them they have something embarrassing in their post). There is of course the option to send an email in response to a post, and that is private. However, that reveals my email address to the user in question (that seems a little strange... I suppose you must have some reason for doing that). Have you considered implementing the ability to send a private message to a user without another user's email address being revealed? Would also be nice to have a "reply" link built into that message (if it's just an email rather than being a part of the CP UI, having an in-email link would make it so I wouldn't have to hunt down a message by that user to reply to them privately).

Allowing members to anonymously contact other members is an invitation for stalking and harrassment. Why contact someone if you don't want them to contact you back?

I didn't say anonymously, I said without sending my email address. Feel free to include my member name and even a link to my member page. Just don't reveal my personal email address.
And as far as them contacting me back, that is why I recommended you include a link to a page that would allow them to send a reply message (without knowing my email address).
If you are looking for a scenario in which this could be used, here is one. Somebody posts in the Lounge asking a programming question. Rather than flame them publicly so they get all defensive, I could just send them a private message. I wouldn't want to reveal my email address, as they could be a troll and would use my email address for nefarious purposes (e.g., add my email to a spam list). They would then click "reply" in the email they were sent, a browser window would open to a page on Code Project that would allow them to send me a reply directly (without either of us ever having to know the other's email address). They could send, for example, a thank you note in which they might explain they didn't know the Lounge rules regarding programming questions, and they might even delete their message in the Lounge before anybody else had a chance to reply.

Sending private emails is delicate because there is no community moderation on the messages, so including an email provides a contact point, other than a member account, by which the receiver of the post can use to contact the member, or the member's hosting provider, should spam or abuse occur.
Currently you need to have your email address be confirmed in order to post messages.
In thinking this through maybe a neater system is to simply have a "report this as spam" link in all private emails sent, as well as a "Do not send my email address" checkbox (as you have asked for).

Its not the contacting them anonymously thats the problem. Its contacting them privately without revealing your e-mail address that makes people reluctant to use this. I don't like to do it as I use my work e-mail, so I dont want to reveal where I work to people. Another reason is people might not want to reveal their real name.
If Pac-Man had affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in dark rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive electronic music.

Indeed, Facebook's private message feature does not reveal my email address. It is better at saving face.
